Socks keep bunching up.

That's the second week in a row where my socks have bunched up and made my foot sore near the end of my long run. Could it be my new running shoes (pictured)?

Maybe it's worth trying some socks made for running?

I'm used to running in the rain so I doubt it's that.

NB I don't keep my shoes that close to the radiator, I just moved them for the photo.

Running socks do often have a ribbed band across the midfoot to try to hold them in place. I have to say none of mine have ever budged. Even during the wet and muddy marathon attempt they remained absolutely in place.

Thanks Linda. Noticed that you mentioned your marathon "attempt", I thought you'd completed a marathon?

Haha. I did! But I completed it with a pretty high ratio of walking to running. I'm still dead proud of it, but I'd like to run one where I trained properly to run it 😊

A marathon is a marathon so, well done! I think a lot of it is about finding the time to put the training in (says he who still has the word "metric" in his badge).

It was a last minute decision for me so no time for proper training. I think I could find the committment for the training but I'm not convinced my body would be up to it!!!

Hmm, if you can do a FM without the proper training, I think you really should be able to handle the training.

Hiya. I have cheap running socks and expensive running socks, and neither pair ever bunched up. They are tighter and more shaped than sports socks. The expensive pair also has a super thick ridge at the back just above the ankle as an extra guard against them slipping into your shoes. I would definitely recommend running socks. The main difference between cheap and expensive is the fabric is nicer when you pay more, especially if it’s a damp run. Cheap socks for my short runs and the posh pair for my weekend epics.

Thanks Magellan. Think I'll invest in a pair and see how I get on.

I started off with running shoes, Tesco socks, walking trousers and an old long sleeved top. My kit is slowly expanding and it seems the next addition is going to be "long distance, wet" socks.

One of my pairs is a very reasonable pair from aldi (the Crane make, I think that's Aldi not Lidl) - they don't shift any more than the pricier ones!

I’ve got loads of lidl running socks 😃👍. They’re fine

What I've found better is socks that come with L and R on them so you're always putting them on the same feet. 😊

I got some new running socks from my son today. Late birthday present. 😃 You can never have too many 😁. My longest lasting ones are More Mile - which were free with my running shoes, and the others are Adidas ones.

I had a trainer sock go to sleep during a HM race. I had to take my shoe off to sort it out 🙄.

I’m going to second More Mile socks. I have 5 pairs and they’ve never let me down, even when they’re soaking wet. 👍

I've asked Santa for some. So, hopefully, all I need now is some wet weather...

Noooooo! Don’t you dare wish more of that upon us! Hope you get your socks though - they’re fabulous in dry weather too! 🤣

OK, if it rains again in the next couple of months, you can blame me 😀. Although, I wasn't wishing for rain, more just speculating that it wouldn't be too difficult to find some.

I was thinking of reserving the running socks for long runs in the wet but, given the price, I might use them all the time.

Thanks MW.

The idea of a sock going to sleep conjures up an interesting image; I'm imagining trying to run with snoring noises coming out of a shoe 😁

Gone to sleep, or gone to bed. A common phrase in my neck of the woods 😁.

I wear running socks, and none has yet bunched up, despite less-than-prestigious origins, i.e. Lidl, Decathlon or Action!
