Well despite constant checking of my weather app in the hope that the forecast rain might hold off - as soon as we all gathered at the start, the wind picked up and the rain blew in! πŸ’¨πŸŒ§πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ Of course by this point, I had somewhat optimistically, left my cap and waterproof in my bag at the bag drop - so no choice but to embrace the elements! Truth is, once I'm running in it, I quite like a little rain - which is just as well because it didn't stop!!

The route itself was a 10k trail run setting off from the rugby stadium in Aldershot and taking in paths alongside the Basingstoke canal and the local Wellesley woodland. It was a really interesting route - over and under canal bridges, winding paths through woodland and eventually back to the stadium. Organised by the local runnng club (thank you Blackwater Valley Runners), council and local Nepalese community, it was well attended and organised and the rugby stadium was a great base for registration, toilets etc.

I felt good throughout a steady run and finished with a chip time of 1:02:46. Happy with that prior to the GSR next week.

Back home to dry off and for a cup of tea and a bacon butty! Job done!πŸ‘πŸ™‚

Well done SandraJ39, sounds like you did well and got through it despite the weatherπŸ™‚πŸ‘

Good luck with the GSR next week!πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

A cup of tea and bacon butty is always a great reward for all that effort!πŸ˜‹

Thanks David - I prefer running in this weather than the heat, to be honest!

Yes, couldn’t agree more. I much prefer it being cooler. Might change my mind when winter kicks in though!β˜ƒοΈβ„οΈ

Respect to everyone out racing this weekend in the Great British weather. There’s so much hanging around before and after when you can get wet and cold. Good prep for next weekend

It sounds like a good community event, which is great , especially with the Nepalese getting involved too.

It's definitely one I would do again Dexy. Big Nepalese community in Aldershot because of army links. Now I can start tracking the weather systems for next weekend!πŸ˜‰

Thanks cheeky - it was fab! I am notoriously bad at meet-ups, I'm afraid. πŸ˜•Race day nerves tend to get the better of me - so I usually opt out - please don't be offended if I don't make it!πŸ™

Oh don’t worry Sandra, there’s absolutely no pressure and we definitely won’t be offended. We were thinking it would need to be after the race anyway, as we’ll all be itching to get running. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Hope you enjoy the day! πŸ‘πŸ˜€

Great time for a tricky wet trail! Well done!! Sounds an interesting one and I bet it passed much quicker as you perused your surroundings.

Bacon butty too. What's not to like. Hope you're dried out and rested now. Ready to go again.

Sandraj39 profile image
Sandraj39Half Marathon in reply to misswobble

Not a hilly one though, misswobble, so easier than many! πŸ‘Time does go by quicker on trail runs though, don't you think? I was curious about the running style of a few of the Nepalese runners too, who seemed to adopt that straight-arm style I have seen in a few Japanese marathon runners...curious. Whatever works, I guess!πŸ˜€
