My favourite run...πŸ™‚πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ

Having not run for a few days due to the heatβ˜€οΈβ˜€οΈπŸ˜©, it was great to get out today and enjoy a 10k in the Surrey countryside. This route is easily my favourite, meandering through fields and woodland as well as a few km out and back along the beautiful footpath/bridleway that was once our local railway line. My turning point was at a lovely old, disused village railway station - now in private ownership and lovingly restored by the current owners. Today the old engine shed was open and lo and behold, a beautiful old red double decker bus was parked up on the station platform!! (It felt a little bit as though I had slipped back in time! ) Anyway, lots of opportunities on this route to also take a few 'undulating' paths too, as well as running up over the old railway cutting, which is a long hard slog on any day! Back home and feeling so much better for my run πŸ˜€! Happy weekend running to those who can and hoping you are back out there soon, to those who can't.πŸ‘πŸ™‚

Sounds like a lovely run Sandra.πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ It’s great to be able to get out there now there’s less heat and humidity.

I love the idea of running back in time too!πŸ™‚πŸ‘

Yes, good luck to those who can get out and best wishes to those that can’t. See you out there soon!πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘πŸ‘

Thanks David. It's such a lovely run and of course changes with the seasons - it can be very muddy after rain (which I like even more!πŸ™‚)

Well done Sandra! You painted such a wonderful picture of your route. It sounds gorgeous! 😍 And what a treat seeing an old red double decker! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜€

What a beautiful run and finding a bus too! It sounds to have been a lovely location and a very relaxed run too... perfect. I love finding new routes, and unexpected things en route too...It is about so much more than running isn't it... ?

Thanks for sharing, my friend:) x

Woodland runs are so nice this time of year with the dappled light under the trees. The one benefit of Dr Beeching’s railway closures is the running/cycle/bridal paths it has created for us to enjoy. Mainly flat too. πŸ˜‰

I love the old railway lines but on their own they could be quite boring for long runs. I'm lucky that there is also lots of farmland and woodland to explore around here, so never 'flat' for too long!πŸ™‚

I was having exactly that conversation with youngest kitten the other day Dexy! He wants the railway reinstated between ours and where he goes to school but we’d lose one of our favourite paths. Whilst we both bemoaned Dr Beeching’s effect on the environment today we both agreed that he’s given us invaluable and safe leisure routes. The irony of forcing more traffic onto the roads wasn’t lost on us.

My train to school at Swanage was closed in the 70s and we had to start going by bus. Boo! But local people got it going again and restored steam trains and it is now a major tourist attraction again. Hoorah! There’s even a plaque at the station to mention the children who used the train to go to our school, which was also closed. Boo!

We camped near the old railway line in Swanage when the boys were younger. They loved (well, we ALL loved) watching the steam trains go by! Just lovely! πŸ™‚

Just love the Swanage railway and beautiful beach too πŸ˜€. Used to live in Dorset but now in Somerset so we can enjoy the West Somerset steam trains!

Oh Sandra, those disused railway paths are so brilliant! I used to regularly cycle down one to get to the South Downs, it was my favourite route. Nature soon reclaims it for itself and the Surrey countryside is so beautiful, it’s easy to enter another world. Fab run! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Lovely! Running through greenery is so much more satisfying and therapeutic than running on streets and urban areas isn't it? Love the surprise mid route - no two runs are ever the same, they just keep on giving :)

That sounds wonderful.

Oh that sounds heavenly, Sandra! What a magical route. πŸ’• And that first cooler run after a spell of heat is always a joy, eh? Nice write up, thank you, cheered me right up to read this!
