I woke up far too early so had my bowl of porridge at 5am followed by a banana at 7 just before I had to leave for the bus. It was a very mild morning, very little wind, just perfect for running. I started almost at the back of the group, I like to stay out the way and set my own pace but my first km still turned out to be too fast, I must have just got caught up with the excitement. The route was all on cycle paths, mostly flat but a few gradual ascents that seemed to go on forever.
I found a nice steady pace and kept ticking off the kms as they passed. Struggled a bit around the 10km mark and then found my second wind and my last 2 kms were almost as fast as my first.
The end of the route is at Murrayfield rugby stadium but when you arrived at the stadium the people doing the shorter 6.5km route were funnelled straight in but the 13.1km runners had to run past the entrance and do another long loop before getting inside. It felt quite cruel! Once I got in the stadium, onto the running track with about 100m to go I even managed a final sprint to the finish line.
I really enjoyed today and am beginning to feel quite positive about the HM in 7 weeks time. Today was the furthest I have ever run so am feeling very proud of myself.

Oh my gosh I'm with you on that last loop before going into the stadium—it is so mean! I didn't realise that the 6.5ers would go a different way at the end and spent the whole of the last few km trying to work out why the two sets of signs didn't add up. I almost lost the will to live entirely when I found I had to go round the edge of the Murrayfield training ground before finishing, it just went on forever. But congratulations on getting to the end and looking so fresh and cheery!
