Finally, over four months on from my last half marathon (and the resulting stress fracture), I have permission to start running again!
Has it been bad? yes!
Has it been all bad? no!
Have I gained anything? yes, I've discovered a love for cycling (well, cycling with Strava to be more precise 😂) and that will certainly help with future cross training efforts.
Have I anything to be grateful for? yes, all you lovely, wonderful, supportive people xxx
I guess there may well be setbacks, but for now I am so, so,so, so happy ... and guess what I'll be doing after work today? 😍

I was originally going to just work the 3 months ( either way) Tria as then I’d have to give no notice. But I need enough to extend my front wall two blocks higher and pay someone to do it ...( original plan) and also now I’m thinking the two front side walls too. Then I want a new door sized gate instead of the old rusted small gate and I’d like a big double sized sliding gate too for the drive. And the lower end of my drive floods every time it rains and threatens to flood the garage. Want to dig a trench, put in a drainage gully and re surface it. Not sure how much that will all be but I’m thinking 6 months now 😭😭 so maybe March again??
Then that’s it, unless it’s a few hours in a wool shop no more retail!!!!
BEST NEWS EVER! I am so happy for you, Linda! Woo hoo! And you have been brilliant; the cycling was a genius idea and will be a great compliment to your running. 👍 Enjoy your first run back (I feel excited for you!) and take it gently. xxx
Thanks Sadie. I plan to be so, so careful - I don't want another 4 months off any time soon! Hope you're still enjoying your well earned recovery time 🙂
I was never coming out of that hospital with any other result today 🤣🤣🤣 As it happens I didn't have to lie, I told it as it was, honest 😀. I plan to be careful, but if anyone thinks I'm getting carried away or kidding myself, please please feel free to tell me!!!
Sooooo long, too long .... tonight's little run was so much fun, and it was interesting reflecting on how different I felt about it tonight compared to over 2 years ago. C25K really did change my life, it changed me!
Oh wow you are going right back to the beginning! Very sensible. At this rate I will have to do the same... 6 weeks of no running, still have pain in back of pelvis and heel...still seeing osteopath...no idea when I will run again! I will post here when I do, that's for sure!
Not sure I'll do 9 weeks of C25K, but needed somewhere to start. I liked how you built back up after the piriformis issue and I have a runnersconnect article with a similar plan to build from a stress fracture too; but tonight I was just impatient to just get out there so w1r1 was an easy, no think option 😀
Lol. I'm not known for my patience, some would say I have NO patience at all 🤪. But what can you do? It felt like today would never come, but here it is, almost worth the wait 🤣
Thanks Dexy. I have Osterley 10k at the beginning of Dec which I haven't cancelled yet ... will see how it goes. I'm also hoping to do parkrun at the beginning of Nov with JaoJao when she visits Black Park, although it will probably still be a run/walk effort. But I'm not saying no to the idea of a duathlon at some point next year, if I can find one that's not too serious 🙂
Sounds good! Haven't quite decided how to progess yet, but w1r1 seemed a very good place to start. Every other day sounds good too. Right now I'm happy with that 🙂
Fantastic news Linda. How are you going to fit your bike rides in now though? And remember, you already know about W5R3, so you don’t need to fear it this time round 😂😂😂
Hopefully ride every other day (while the weather allows). You're so right about the missing fear factor! I can see I'm different now in so many ways than two years ago 🙂
That's pretty much what I said as I stepped it up for those first 60 seconds of running last night - don't think anyone heard me 🤣. It came out with a burst of emotion that was beyond my control 🤣🤣🤣
Just fantastic news, really great. I am so pleased for you, and your example to us all, of sheer determination to keep moving, with exercises and that awesome cycling, is inspirational.
Enjoy coming back to the running and yes, you know what I will always say?
Councidence! I was wondering how you were getting on earlier today as I hadn't noticed any posts or replies from you in a while. Is your rehab still going to plan?
Going OK thanks. Did a 5k walk last Saturday followed by a 500m jog yay! Wend out and jogged 2k today. Going very slowly at the moment but I'm getting there. Sorry for my late reply, I managed to lose track somehow.
2k sounds great! I'm temporarily benched again and of correspondingly low mood 🙁 I've pulled a tendon in my foot - think everything is tight on that side and obv needed more warming up - and my niggly knee is niggling too loudly. So I'm trying to be sensible and wait again ... was so looking fwd to my 20 min run today as well. Pah!
I'm still riding, yes. Hope to continue that when weather allows. But today I booked as a sulky rest day. Have done nothing. That's OK, except I had one on Monday too!
