Gradually increasing distance

Did my longest run so far yesterday, 15k. Set off with the intention of running 5mins 40sec pace per kilometre as that's the sub 2hr half marathon pace which is my stretch target for my 1st half marathon in June in Swansea. Actually ended up running 5.25 pace which was hard towards the end but not too bad. Legs are a bit tired today but not excessively. I think I will do a 10k long run next week rather than the 16k planned as I am going on a week's cycling holiday the last week of May. I will then increase the distance of my weekly long run in June and ease off the cycling.

Sounds like a great run. Very nearly at the 10 mile mark and a nice new shiny badge!

Believe and you can do it 😉👍 you can always reduce the pace a bit if needed.

It looks like you have everything in hand, and will have an awesome half marathon!!

Out of curiosity, are you running without a watch? I can definitely relate to that running-a-bit-faster-than-I-meant-to scenario 😊 I suggest you try for the 5:40 pace again, but on one of your shorter runs - try and get the feel for it xxx

I have been using a basic watch and use strava on my phone which gives me pace updates every half km. I've been looking into getting a better watch but am not sure what to get. Do I need a GPS and hrm watch and how reliable are they at uploading to strava?

I don't use a watch, which was the reason for my comment. My feeling is that no-one needs a watch, but it's a useful tool for sure! Chest strap heart rate monitors are more accurate than wrist ones - although wrist monitors are OK. As far as I am aware all the popular GPS watches work very well with Strava 😊
