HM training week 10 day 3 - all in zones 1&2 today for 55mins/5.35km

Brrrr: long leggings and long sleeves today. Chilly, blustery, with rain in the wind. Proper September weather now, with cyclamen and autumn crocuses on the verges.

School is back, so lots of stopping to cross busy roads or dodging bins ( it’s bin day) and school students on the pavements.

I’m still getting to know Abingdon. There are constant fresh delights: an arched window in an ancient building here, a hidden courtyard massed with flowers there; trees guarding a walled garden behind 17th century alms houses; lily pads on a quiet backwater before an ancient bridge. I cut down by the abbey, the intact part where the original refectory forms the place where you can have refreshments in the interval at the Unicorn Theatre - the windows are unglazed, open to the elements but for canvas sheeting: the poor monks must have frozen in unkind winters.

So, some spikes into zone 3 here, plus a huge surge when I began running, the result of going off over enthusiastically on a slope. Don’t let anyone tell you slow running doesn’t raise your heart rate, it jolly well does; it’s surprisingly tiring!

Nice discription of Abingdon Flick, the run seems to have gone very smoothly, that's great news, to avoid all the children going to school, do what I do which is to wait until school starts, the school near to me begins at 8.55am, To avoid all the children I begin my run at 8.55 once the kids are in school. 😊 🏃

Thanks Alan 🙂It’s not really a problem with the students: they make the run more interesting. I love teenagers - used to work with them. My granddaughter is 15 and goes to the school these were going to. The traffic is a bit more of a problem but, if I’m honest, it gave me a sneaky excuse to get my hr down 😂😂😂

Beautiful description Flick. It feels like I’m there with you! Sounds chilly too, but I think us runners like chilly. 👍

Well done on your fantastic run today. 👍👏🏃‍♀️

Aw, thank you lovely.

I don’t like the cold, I much prefer running in summer, but I have to admit it makes it easier to keep the heart rate down. I’m not looking forward to winter running though, those horrible few minutes before you warm up, having to either wear too much and stow it round your person later, or freeze till you get going. I’m slightly worrying whether to wear capris or leggings for my HM. The top is short sleeves as it’s been sent to my by Alzheimer’s Society, as I’m running for them.

I’d go for capris personally, as I tend to fixate on whatever part of me (all sometimes! 😅) is too hot. We’re all different - probably a good thing!

it isn't till mid October. when I did Blenheim 10k last September, I wore leggings and short sleeves. I was frozen, it was about 9 degrees while we were waiting, but i warmed up. October is a month on, but it's twice the distance but might be cooler. Ah, well, i will have to see on the day :)

I’ll have a similar dilemma for the GSR at the end of October ..... 🤔
