HM training run week10 day2, tempo run: zone 1&2, zone 3, zone 4, zone 1&2 - 40mins, 4.26km

Blustery, cloudy day with bursts of sunshine after last night’s rain. I’m taking advantage of the opportunity to wear vests and capris while it’s still warm enough!

This was hard. I didn’t think I’d manage to get up into zone 4, but it was ok once I got to it. I’m getting a bit jaded and battle weary. This has been an interesting process, and I’m thinking the weeks of training, with its ups and downs, enthusiasm and now weariness, are a blueprint for the race itself in a way. A couple of weeks ago I had energy to spare; now I’m digging a bit deeper to keep up the runs. I still have a passion for the process though. The stats speak for themselves - my pace is improving at last and my muscles have muscles - but what interests me is the psychological side of it all.

The slightly cooler weather should help you a bit with your running Flick, great that you got to zone 4 despite being a bit jaded and battle weary, now that is a new one, running being a battle, anyway, enjoy a good rest and be prepared for your next run. 🏃 😊 👍

Energy does go up and down during training, and I totally understand what you mean by “battle weary”! You are right - those high and lows of training really do prepare us for race day. The excitement of the event and support will get us round! Well done on your resilience and commitment! 👏👏👏 xxx

Thank you dearest. Well done yourself. I’m looking forward to hearing all about it on the day xxx

Know what Flick? You are going to smash your race. 👊 Your dedication to training is second to none. You’re an inspiration (coming from a committed DIY plan kind of person!) Can’t wait to hear how you get on. 😀👍🏃‍♀️

in reply tocheekychipmunks

Aw thanks. It seems close now, though it’s actually five or more weeks away xx

Lol...that’s exactly what it’s like doing a half! Never thought of connecting the training to the actual race psychology like that. You are smashing this training plan.

in reply toAldlib

Thank you. I shall be well prepared - I hope 😳😂😂

You've stuck with it throughout. 💪🏻👍🏻 I couldn't do that! I'm sure you'll be well prepared on the day 😁

in reply toGoGo_JoJo

Thank you Jo 🙂 I’ve only stuck it because it’s been fun. It’s motivated me to get out there too. Just the same as Marcothon motivated me last December. I’m going to enjoy free running again after the HM though

You will be great Flick! You’ve worked so hard for this, it makes sense to feel a little battered, but it will all feed your fire on race day

in reply toDecker

Thank you. I had a major emotional wobble for a couple of days, but I’m beginning to look forward to the event now - especially running through beautiful Oxford
