Hillsborough Castle 10k Done

Well that was definitely a medal I had to work for. After a brief warm-up, the race started in the beautiful grounds of Hillsborough Castle. I got chatting at the start to two lovely older gentlemen who volunteer every week at Junior Parkrun. They turned out to be dark horses and overtook me about 3 miles into the race and we kept chasing each other for the next 4 miles! The first few miles were definitely ‘undulating’, raising the heart rate from the early stages but the grounds were stunning and at least we were shaded. After about 3 miles, we headed out onto the surrounding rural roads of Hillsborough into the blazing sunshine. Local support was lovely and I high fived as many of the kiddies as I could. There was then a longish downhill section where we were met by runners on the other side of the road. I thought it was the half marathon returning before I realised there was a cone in the middle of the road and we all had to u turn and head back up the hill we had just ran down 🤦🏻‍♀️. The route then took in some of the historic attractions in the local area such as Hillsborough Fort and Hillsborough Lake which was stunning. I had a quick stop to take a photo (I’m in blue and green) before finishing with a lap of the Gardens. Chip time was 1:07:37 which given the heat and the course, I was really pleased with. Right, back to half marathon training next week.
