Jedburgh Running Festival (10k) race report

What a stunning day it was yesterday in the beautiful Scottish Borders for the Jedburgh Running Festival. Azure blue sky, glorious sunshine and a cool breeze. While the running conditions were near perfect for running, they couldn't compensate for the killer hills, which were tough going in places. That said, the race itself was well organised, friendly and a great atmosphere. Not too busy too, so plenty of space after the usually challenges of getting away from the start line and finding your rythme. I was delighted to get a new personal best time for my 10k (50:08 gun time; 49:59 chip time). Given I only started my running journey in March I'm amazed by how far I have come. Definitely curious about reaching half marathon distance, but I need to spend some time getting to grips with pacing.

Wow, that's an amazing time for a hilly 10k; unbelievable that you only started running in March! Congratulations.

Half marathon distance is fun, and most training plans actually incorporate understanding and putting into practice good pacing, and spend a lot of time mixing it up.

that's an amazingly good time without the hills! Awesome xx

I took part in this event too and really enjoyed it. I'm a lot slower than you so had time to admire the beautiful scenery while struggling up the hills. It's the first run I've done away from the city so really appreciated how quiet it was apart from the last couple of kms. Still plenty of encouraging people along the route and a great atmosphere. I would like to come back for the half next year.

Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, it was definitely nice not to be jostled by what can feel like thousands of participants at the bigger city events. I'd definitely do the 10k again in Jedburgh, the 1/2 is tempting, though I'd worry about the hills just taking too much out of me. Though I'm aware I'll need to slow down and get better at pacing myself for the longer distances. Plenty of time to decide!

Oooo running in the Borders would be lovely. I'll make a mental note of this one 😀

Half marathon is twice as fun as a 10k! Get in there 😁

Brilliant race! Yes Half Mara distance would be the next logical step and you should be just fine with some pace adjustment. Sounds like a great atmosphere for this event.
