Am touring Scotland this week on the motorbike so my LSR was around the lovely Drumnadrochit. I picked a route from Google maps and by luck ended up on one of the flattest routes I have ever ran on! Because there were no hills, it was one of those runs where after the first couple of miles everything settled down and I just forgot about running. Runs like that don’t happen very often for me, but when they do, I love them - it’s almost meditative. I didn’t worry about pacing, heart rate, or anything else and just went out to run the 10 miles by how I felt. I didn’t even bring water with me but I had two glasses of water before I went out so I wasn’t thirsty. Lesson learned after last week’s long run.
Once I got out of the town, I ran along a quiet road which had the river on one side and a beautiful pine forest on the other. Because of all the heavy rain, I could literally feel the spray from the force of the water at times as I ran alongside - it was really cooling. A lot of the run was shaded by trees which was pleasant. The temperature today was lower too which made for a really enjoyable 10 miles. The last mile was back through the town listening to live music from a Scottish piper, perfect ending.
One of the best runs I have had for ages.
