Hello everybody!

Welcome to another new week - let's put our feet up with a coffee/tea/sparkling-water/EDIT: BEER!! 😄 and chat about running/racing/resting!

I seem to be trying to do a lot of difficult stuff like pull-ups, sea swimming, and rehabbing my grumpy Achilles, and a lot of entertaining is on the horizon, and it's stressing me out a bit! Must remember to keep calm and smell the roses (or sagebrush, as Sask said last week!) 😊😊😊 Maybe I'll spend some more time taking photos of the Lagoon at sunset...

How do you like to unwind?

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion!

Hi, lovely photo! Very relaxing which is a good way to start the week. Last week managed to fit in an 8km run and a PR. This week I start a new job and have a lot of commuting to do and probably very little time. Inspired by Oldfloss, I’m going to try and fit in 10’ run when I get home, however tired I feel. A short run is still a run x

This morning I’m sitting outside in the garden with a cup of tea and waking up, I can hear a brass band playing nearby. I’ve got a page in front of me with times written on it and post it notes pad, I’m going to write down on the post it’s what I need to get done today and then put the note beside a time. Then I’m going to start working through my list. 😀 Have a nice day! 🌸🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Hi, I'm getting further into my HM training for Bournemouth in October and all is going well so far. I'm working at my mum's for a few days now so I get a chance to run round Bognor Regis rather than south London. I'm loving the sea air and the opportunity to run on a flat surface with no traffic.

Oh how marvellous! I do envy folks who can run by the sea. I don't get the chance very often but when I do i make the most of it. Even in winter! Aaaaaaaagh, snow on Morecambe bay, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I still can't get over how thrilled I am after completing my first parkrun on Saturday in a time of 34.16, certainly won't be my last parkrun, next one in just under 2 weeks. 😊 🏃

I just got a email from the founder of Parkrun Paul Sinton Hewitt welcomeing me to the Parkrun community and telling me a little about parkrun history, by the way watch BBC. One TV this evening at 7.30, there is a program about parkruns.

No, the cakes, chocolate and birthday cake were only available last Saturday because it was that parkruns 4th birthday, there is a restaurant in the park but unfortunately, it has had many bad reviews from people who have gone for a meal, so after the next parkrun I'll just come home.

Thank you very much roseabi, I got a post from Oldfloss just a few minutes before I left my house to go to the Parkrun wishing me well at my first parkrun, that was really nice of her, I promised her that when I got the official result around 12.30 on Saturday she would be first to know and she was the first person to know my result before I told anyone else on the main C25K page.

Well, I'm still feeling chuffed with my recent progress but intend to have more rest days this week plus various commitments will be getting in the way of running time.

Achieved 44 miles this week. I'll be happy with 30ish this week. 👍🏻😁

Hi Abi 👊💥💪.My difficult stuff is taking care of an 80 year old mature garden.🤔 I am trying to tweak it and create a new high level band with Eucalyptus,Acer Autumn Blaze, Hawthorn,Cherry,Rowan and Prunus trees.I intend to lift the crowns to above the existing 2m+Privet,Escallonia and Fuschia hedges 200m long round the perimeter.Intended to replant all shrub beds this year but will have to be 2020.

That is the year I hope to get my ONCE in a lifetime Marathon badge beside my name.

Oh 🙈 by the way my relax ME time is the magic forum.

We have the tree surgeons in today, topping out trees. I dont want it done but my husband is not a tree hugger like me and likes things tidy. Trouble is we're talking cherry, and topping it out means no flipping cherries. Doh. A goat willow has gone berserk and that's being tidied up too. I went running while the noisy bit was being done. I can't actually bear to look. They were removing some dead elms too. My husband wants the live elms taking out too as "they're going to die anyway". I pointed out that so is he! I told them to leave them be. If I go down the garden and find them gone I will be upset, but I fear they will be

My neighbour has taken out two giant poplars, and we are losing a rowan too that's half dead. So, gaps to be filled with new trees.

I have built up to 17 trees and would like possibly to get to 24.

Before I started this programme some 6-7 years ago a landscape Gardner said to me you will be in darkness and future owners will hate you.🤔🙈🤣🤣

My hedgerow is much diminished now since the tree surgeons took the elms out so I need to go tree shopping. My husband will put some waneylap up if I don’t hurry 🤨

I’ve just taken out 21 conifers. Garden looks twice the size. I can see the sea now from my bedroom window.

Seems a long time away even before I commence my 12 month programme.🤔🙈🤣

Intensive 5 days a week training, so I’m serious about my two rest days, when I swim instead. I do yoga every day too, so that helps. I’m lucky to be old so don’t work: I spend a lot of time reading. I’m forced to rest right now as I walked into the automatic door this morning after swimming - very large bruised bump on my forehead - though probably not to be recommended as an aid to relaxation!

Big bruised bump, and I did feel slightly under par for my run today, but I managed the run in the heat, and actually feel fantastic now 😊❤️ x

Breathing is the key!

Chuffed that last Sunday I ran a local 10K race and knocked 5m 1s off my previous (& first) 10K (CRUK Winter Run) back in Feb.

Next Sunday I’m running the Ascics 10K in London and hoping to keep to my PB think it will be hotter 😬😊

But this weekend just gone I’ve mainly been having a lot of envy for those completing the race to the Stones. So fancy an Ultra but do need to do a lot more work first 🤣

Hope your entertaining goes well. I find it interferes with my running 🙄🤣🤣🤣

I have a bit of a stressful week this week, workwise which may affect my opportunity to run my usual routine this week. However, we shall overcome and I have no fixed events until September so its just running for fun pretty much anyway.

Hi all,

I'm doing OK with my training plan for my half marathon in September, I work full time so do my running in the evenings which suits me well. On my rest days I play tennis, do a bit of yoga or strength training. I completed an 8 miler last night (a lovely easy one with a couple of loo stops along the way)! I was pleased with that - my longest run since GSR last October.

I don't post much in this group but it is a great source of information and support - thanks everyone!

Mornin all. I literally have been smelling the roses! As I run along I can't resist sniffing at all those lovely roses billowing about on my route. I hung out in some lovely gardens over the weekend, supping tea and eating cake and marvelling at folks' creative horticultural genius.

Taking advantage of the lovely weather and getting some running done. Just got back from a recovery trail run, and still sitting here in my sweaty gear with a coffee, thinking about lunch.

Got an evening hill race on Thursday and I think it's going to be hot again. The steepest bit runs up to the door of Hardwick Hall (more glass than wall) and then down again. The return leg is very hard and you can hear folks swearing and cussing as they slog the four kms back to the finish, having used all their puff to get up the hill.

I hope I can put in a good effort.

After a Parkrun PB Saturday and a Strava cycling QOM (first and possibly last) Sunday, I was forced to relax on Sunday afternoon by being pinned to the sofa by the cat, watching the Wimbledon final which went on for HOURS.

Had a good weekend of running - a special parkrun starting and finishing on the pier and followed by a Charity Relay event. 3 out of the 4 of us ran parkrun (supposedly as a warm up - my son got within 40 secs of his PB and my speediest teammate ran 19:03 🤣) The relay was really tough - on the 500m leg the hill was so steep and sharp they'd provided a rope so you could haul yourself up 😦 But we managed to run a collective time of 41:10 for 10k and came 3rd which I'm pretty chuffed about 😁

Ran a 2 hour easy pace run this morning as part of my Beachy Head Marathon preparations and have the club 5k handicap on Wednesday evening. If the handicapper has got his sums right the last few hundred meters could be carnage - there's 122 of us entered 🤣

What a great pic Abi! After yesterday’s not-so-great race, I’m spending the week at the lake enjoying my own water views off the back deck of the boat. It is still supposed to be fairly warm this week but not as stifling (hopefully) so am looking forward to doing all my runs at the lake - a 5.8k interval run that I’ll run through the campground, a 3k “easy” run that I might say screw the easy, I’m running the horseshoe again with my hubby that is 100+ m up, up, up, followed by a lovely ridge run, then a gradual 100+ m down with some beautiful views. It is tough but so pretty and a great place to stop and smell the sagebrush! Then onto my 14k run sometime this weekend while the local fish derby is on (the first wave is 6 am starting right outside my boat and the fisherman are not quiet, nor are over 100 boats heading out in 3 waves so I’ll be up early, as usual!). I’ll run the full second loop that makes up 14k of my September trail race. So with that and the Horseshoe run earlier in the week, I’ll complete 17 of the 20k of my 20k race course. Sounds like a perfect holiday week to me 😊

Hoots everyone! Well. I thought running was going to be off the menu this week as I had a very sore throat on Saturday and Sunday, and felt the beginnings of a cold – oh the horror! But my body wasn't having any of it, and by this morning I was feeling well again, so off I trotted for the 5k of my plan this week. It was glorious. I am absolutely loving this HM training malarky, really enjoying the long runs. That's my way to unwind. :-) Happy running all. xxx

my running feels like its slowly getting back on track. I cycled to PR on Saturday and got round slowly but I did it (it was hot hot). been for a run this morning and finally feel my ankle and glutes on my left side (which have been an issue for ages) are waking up and firing together as a unit, normally my left foot falls quite flat as my left glute is weak. Went for a swim in the sea and had a little nap afterwards perfect :-) , the lagoon looks lovely.

No long run for me today as we had a decorator turning up at 9. And then it dawned on me that the school holidays start next week so I’ll be home with the kids every Monday; if I want to get out for a decent stretch of the legs in the next 6 weeks I’ll have to get out the door by 6.30am to be back so Mrs Colinsmith can head to work.

I think it’ll have to be done... I felt so discombobulated today by the change in routine. Managed to get out just before school pick up for a quick 5km, but mid-afternoon running is all kinds of wrong. Lunch swishing around inside like a bleedin’ tombola drum! 😁

I’ll stop moaning. It felt OK by the end and life is good overall. Happy running everyone, and if you’re on the IC... swift healing.

Gorgeous photo roseabi❤️. I'm still chugging along enjoying my running 🏃🏽‍♀️. With an eye on my plans for the Great South Run on October, I thought it was time to step out a little further than my usual 10km at the weekend - enjoying a steady 8 mile run on Sunday. Cheered by the fact that my last km was inadvertently my fastest😮 and enjoyed taking a little Tailwind with me in place of water for the first time. Oh, and the legs feel happy today....😀

Serenity is eluding me despite every effort to imprint your lovely picture on my brain! Today I was told no running before my next appt at the fracture clinic -in five and a half weeks time. I'm not sure that's any different a timescale than I was expecting, but put like that it sounds interminable. I'm trying to get my head around it. Keep running everyone, keep posting - I'm very bored and need entertaining :)

And in answer to your question Abi, I would run to unwind, but it's not an option!

On a more positive note I've had some lovely cycle rides and I've been really good with my 'hurt foot fitness' workouts. Resting today, but that's the first rest day in almost three weeks. My determination was strong; it feels badly dented again today, but hopefully by tomorrow it'll be back.

It must be frustrating but I think you are disciplined and wise to be using the time to strengthen and cycle. Hoping that the foot heals sooner and you are stronger for it with all the work you are putting in.

Bummer. Really sorry. But at least you won't lose running fitness the way I did: the cycling will keep it all ticking over - the worst thing for me was loss of aerobic fitness, going from running two+ hours non stop to barely managing 100 yards. You will be back and you will be strong xx

Work stress is higher this week, but the running is part of my stress management 🙂. I have a plan but my current long runs are going beyond plan distances so I guess things are ok. This upcoming week is in line with what I’ve been doing so far. Its just been really hot here. Good luck in the heat everyone.

Started a new job last month and have had to give the running a bit of a backseat (hence my patchy forum visits). Still haven't signed-up to a HM or marathon yet but must do it soon to get my mojo back. Still managing a few 5k treadmill runs per week (great gym at work with THREE treadmills!) but not great watching the wall for half an hour ar a time! Must get out on a proper long run this weekend before I forget how to do long hops. Might "run to the Park run" and then home (21km) again just to see how my fitness has slipped! Hidden with her hardcore training plan is putting my mileage to shame! Nice one Flick!

Well, the trouble with the hr zone training is it initially slows you down as you are running in zones 1&2 a lot, so you don’t go as far! 😂

I’m drinking a glass of wine 🍷 while writing this , I hope that’s allowed. I’m still on my journey to 10 miles and hope to extend my current 12k long run further this week. I missed my parkrun PB by 6 seconds last week, but given the heat I’m not surprised. My relaxation is getting out in the garden and pottering. I could potter all day.

After being plagued by niggly injuries (ITB and shin splints) I went to a physio who has really helped. Turns out my stiff ankles and way too bendy knees are probably the culprits, so we're working on sorting that. I'm already in a lot less pain, and back on track with my training. It is costing me a lot of money, but running has become super important to me so I decided it was worth it.

I ran 5k on the mostly boring streets of south east London this morning, but the rest of my running this week will be on the beautiful Monsal Trail in the Peak District. 5k on Friday, and 13k on Sunday. It's where I ran my first ever 10k a couple of months ago, and it's perfect. I can't wait to be back!

Hi! I am practicing slow walking even when I am fit enough to walk faster and do running for about 100ft at a time, I think slow walking is not as bad as what I read from few comments in local newspaper, it also has some special advantages such as exercising the toes with full flexibility, toe lifting, its surprising that the small toes can carry the weight of the whole body and they make ballet superstars

Thought you might have fallen out with your bike permanently - I'm pretty sure I'd never forgive mine if it did that to me! Good to hear you're back out there ... however light the jogging needs to be for now. Good luck :)

i still haven't forgiven my bike it has a lot of making up to do! I was advised by the doctor if i do fall of again make sure its the other side!

Light jogging? in my dreams! hoping to start my homemade 'couch to walk' program today :D :D :D I know, I know, my injury and recovery time pales into insignificance compare with yours ... just trying to make 'light jog' sound appealing, which it does to me right now. Best of luck :)

good luck with your couch to walk program, i am sure your be great. All injury's are terrible and wouldnt like to say mine is worse then anyone else's.

at the time it was a easy choice, go out on the bike on a nice sunny day or do some housework!
