It lives up to its name this one! A nice mixed terrain route mostly on footpaths, tracks & bridleways, dipping into villages and along the guided busway for a while.
Started out on this my second ever HM at a reasonable pace, but like most of the runners had to wind back the speed in order to survive to the finish as the mercury kept on rising.
Needless to say today wasnβt a PB day for me or most of the field, but Iβm pleased with the result. Electrolyte really made a difference, even though I had to lose a few minutes overall at the water stations refilling my fuel belt bottles (thanks Madge50 - they worked really well). I felt good after the race without the cramps, nausea and pain I suffered in my last HM in March.
The bargain pack of high5 energy gels weβre also put into play, but it was only the caffeine one that seemed to make a difference. That and the couple of jelly babies I picked up along the way from amongst the many fantastic well wishers en route.
The best bling Iβve collected so far I think, and a plentiful supply of fruit, water & munchies at the end, as well as the T shirt made this a HM to remember.
Looking forward to the next challenge now!
