So from the title yes you guessed, I did it. I ran a Half Marathon.
Slept okay last night then got up put out my weetabix and had a coffee.
I new the first 8k of the route as I had ran it on my 10 mile run . It may be classed as a cycle path but boy its hilly.
I had my new belt with space for my phone and jelly babies and 2 small water bottles.
It rained the whole time and it was windy but I didn't care and being from Scotland I'm kind of used to it.
I had my watch set for half way so I new when to turn around to go back.
My legs got a bit tired near the end but I kept pushing on and then I was finished . I had the biggest smile on my cool down walk and probably looked a bit mad walking into my street smiling like a Cheshire cat.
As it was raining there wasn't many people out today a few dog walkers and cyclists.
A few photo stops along the way the cows and their calves and the tiniest snails I've ever seen where dotted along the path the entire route.
So I'm home now and I'm proud of myself and apart from my husband you all are the first to know I did it.
I want to say thanks for all of your posts , I've been reading about other peoples HM distance on here and it really helped push me along and thanks for all the pinned posts about how to get to where I am today.
Nearly forgot , today would have been the Monklands half marathon and for obvious reasons it was cancelled but if you did the run and sent them proof via email they will send out the medal in the post π

Let me be the first to congratulate you for completing your first Half Marathon, well done and on such a horrible wet day, it would be especially hard on the second part when you were running against the wind
Remember to tell the administrators that you have ran your first HM. you will then see the words Half Marathon next to your username, by the way our friend Johnny Lewis also ran his first HM today, once again congratulations.
I was looking at the HM course for the Monklands Half Marathon, it takes the runners no fewer than 4 times through a part of Drumpellier Country Park past the start line of Drumpelliier parkrun but not the woodland part.
Hello roseabi, I did congratulate Buddy34 on running her first HM and the magic word Half Marathon now appears next to her username, however, our friend Johnny Lewis also ran his first HM today, but I notice the words Half Marathon have not yet appeared next to his username, he asked me how to get it, so could you put the words Half Marathon next to Johnny Lewis's username.
I know it's a long way off, I doubt if this year's Gt Scottish Run will take place but you could think about entering the 2021 event, after today's wonderful achievement you could run the Half Marathon not the 10K as the GSR does consist of those 2 distances, of course you have plenty of time to think about that.
Oh Buddy34 πβ€οΈππΌββοΈ I'm Jumping for joy here reading this! WOW! WOW! WOW! You did it! In fact, I've got a little tear of joy in the corner of my eye π So happy for you! What a wonderful achievement and look at your time! Super Woman ππΌββοΈπ€ΈπΌββοΈππΌββοΈ Enjoy the rest of your day xxxx
Ah Buddy34 π€ you absolutely deserve every letter of Half Marathon next to your name! π It's such a huge milestone of an achievement! I seem to be crying happy tears everyday at the moment π
Why don't you send off for a medal for yourself to mark your achievement?
Two of my staff entered the Sheffield half marathon this year, but it was cancelled and without the option of running it virtually, but they had trained so hard that they run the distance anyway. So I sent off for a couple of medals for them and had them engraved to make the occasion. They absolutely loved them! π xxx
Medal on order AliHC . Today should have been the Monklands HM and for obvious reasons it was cancelled. So they gave people the option of running the distance and emailing proof of the run. Will post a photo when it arrivesππ
I was quite achy yesterday, especially bum muscles π Woke up this morning still a bit achy but dragged myself out for a 5k this afternoon π³ So glad I did, as I'm feeling quite energized again π
The long bath did me a world of good π Hope you're getting a chance to relax now? xxx
Whoop whoop ππππ thatβs brilliant Buddy! Congratulations and really well done to you. The weather could have been kinder but, as you say, youβre used to it but just think how youβll do in calmer weather πββοΈπ
Letβs have a look at the bling when it arrives, itβll be very well-deserved π
Aww thank you cheekychipmunks , after yesterday this has actually gave me the confidence to enter an event now. Whenever that will be possible and you were the one that told me on my ten mile post that a HM was only a parkrun moreπππββοΈ
I doubt if there will be any events this Autumn because of Covid-19, however, you could enter for a 5K Santa Dash around Christmas, sign up for next year's Monklands Half Marathon and the HM of the Great Scottish Run in October 2021.
By the way, you have now joined the very few runners on this forum who have got 100+ replies for graduation run*, I can only think of two others who have received more than 100 congratulations, ButtercupKid got 100+ when she graduated from C25K and a man called Sallison who graduated from C25K two days after I graduated as well, I got about 70, so congratulations for that as well Buddy34.
Oh yes do! You know you can do the distance now. How exciting! ππ
The βonly a parkrun moreβ mantra has helped me on many an occasion and Iβm glad it worked for you too. Our minds need a little cajoling every so often. πβοΈ
Congratulations on your HM Buddy - and in a very decent time too! πππ πππͺπ Extra bonus points for not being put off by the rain. Now you can look forward to receiving that well earned medal!π
Hi Buddy, just seen this. Welcome to the HM club! Hope the glow lasts all week! I was hungry beyond belief for the week after, so be prepared!! πππππππ₯
Thank you , I'm not any hungrier than normal and keep up with the 3 litres of water per day I think helps me. Just got an email today my HM medal will be in the post by the end of the week. My first ever medal for running ππββοΈ
How did I miss this π³ Massive congratulations on your first HM and in a great time too ππ»π₯³π₯πββοΈπ₯ I got taken in by the βitβs only a parkrun more than 10 milesβ too ππ Hope you arenβt feeling too stiff today and that you are still wearing a huge silly grin!
Thank you Sandie , after my shower yesterday I went for a short walk with the dog . Strangely enough couldn't sleep properly last night even though I was knackered. When I got out of bed this morning I was a bit stiff / achy but once I'd done the housework and walked the dog I was okay again. My medal is in the post I got the email today ππ
Whoop whoop Buddy, you've done so well in what seems like such a short amount of time, and even did a little further than you had to! π, bet you can't wait for your medal π
I haven't done more than 10K since I did a solo HM distance in February...seeing your post makes me want to build back up and do it again, just to prove it wasn't a fluke π
