Half Marathon full distance?

I have a half marathon in September and I want to build up my distances steadily between now and then. Currently back at 10k and as my legs say it is ok, I am adding a km on top on a good week. Does that sound ok, I haven't ever done more than 13 km. I run 2 X 5k plus a long run each week right now which feels good for me.

That sounds ok, I reckon. It's all I've been doing really. You've got loads of time 'til September so can take it steady and not progress 'til you're sure you can add on the next km.

I'm trying to do a 'long' run (2hrs) every other week, rather than every week, and maybe just do 10-12k on alternate weeks to make sure I'm not overdoing it. But I also have increased my shorter run distances as well, which I find has helped a bit as well, so that they are normally around 7-9k :-)

I say you have plenty of time to build up to half marathon you could try and do some speed work and increase your v2o max as you have time. then when ready build up by 2km each week for your long run at the weekend, every 3rd week i would take it easy including your mid week runs just half the distance and go slow. Then during the week do ether speed work or find a hill to run up and down. With a slow 5km run as well just to keep thinks ticking over.

or download something like myasics* and follow a plan as they may know what they are talking about :)

*there are plenty of training applications, this is just one. I am not being payed by asics (which is a shame, but they are more them welcome to send me new shoes) and its just the one i am using for my marathon.

I have a HM on March 20th and am doing pretty much what you are. A weekend run increasing by under 10% each week and two midweek runs of 5k. I reached 12 miles today (just over actually ) and that's where I'll stay until the day. It's my first and it's tough but hopefully rewarding. Good luck with your training.

Good luck with your half marathon, i am booked in for one on the 20th March as well but having trouble finding a baby sitter for that day. Any one fancy baby sitting?

You could run with a baby buggy... seen it a few times... even been overtaken by one!

that is an option but the course is very hilly apparently, i would normally pass it on the grandparents but they have decided to go India!

Good luck with yours - and with the baby sitting issue!

They say the 10% rule is a good measure and this certainly fits. I did exactly the same for my first HM and I was fine...... Your plan sounds good. Good luck and enjoy your training... 😎
