I achieved exactly what I set out to do - 20 miles (32K) at 9 mins per K pace. Should have been 4 hours 48 minutes but actually did 4 hours 44 minutes - so 8:50 mins per k. I was like a train on tracks - puffing along using 30sec/60sec run/walk intervals - each 2.5 K split being very close to each other . But I am KNACKERED !!! It IS really hard and I really can't imagine doing this for another 10K!! (42.2K) I have 3 more longruns planned at 2 weekly intervals before I taper for my marathon. HELP!!!!!!
My first 20 miler!!!: I achieved... - Fun Beyond 10K & ...
My first 20 miler!!!
Nice one Bazza!
Simply brilliant. You are such an inspiration. 👏👏
Well done. Jeffing for that long and going that distance is amazing.
Keep chugging along, you’ll make it!! 👍👍💪💪
I can't offer advice as you venture beyond my current experience. However, what you achieved was truly remarkable, and if it wasn't tough it wouldn't be worth doing.
I'm sure you will find that extra as you must have done many times on the long road to get to this point. As Yoda would say: "Inspirational you are."
You’re doing brilliantly Bazza. Just fuel your body well, keep doing the strength exercises and you will be great. It is never going to be easy but you can do it. Don’t forget too that the on the day the adrenaline and excitement will give you an added boost.
P.S. don’t imagine doing another 10k, just keep on, one run at a time chugging on like the train on the tracks you had going.
You are something else Bazza! Really well done
Good Running Bazza
I forgot to ask if this was done in your crazy Aussie humidity and heat? It willbe much cooler on race day?
No - Autumn has finally arrived here - it was a glorious day - started at 6AM 13C and got to around 25C at end of run.
Well done Bazza for getting to 20 miles, that is a huge milestone in marathon training. I did my 20 miler and I felt ok. The 22 miler had me doubting that I would get round as I found that last 2 miles hard work. However, I went into the marathon yesterday full of inevitable doubts but full of hope that I would do it in race conditions and I did find that extra mileage. Trust in the plan and believe in yourself. You are doing brilliantly.
I have had a number of " I am exhausted and can't go a step further" moments - they were at the end of my 20k, 22k, 24K, 26k, 28k, 30k and my 32K longruns . Will they ever end???
No they don't end but what gets you to the end is determination to keep going. The body will be tired but it can still keep moving. Your first exhausted thoughts were at 20k, yet you continued for another 12k so your body will carry on!
Bazza. Take a look at Eddie Izzard's Youtube videos of his marathon per day run round South Africa. He's no "elite athlete" but he defines determination and grit. Take a look. It shows you what's possible when you are determined to grind through distance running. Very humbling.
Well done Bazza
You can do it Bazza 💪🏃🏃👍x
