Benefits of my Marathon training !!

I am a silly old man who was on the cusp of giving up running - and then signed up for a full Marathon. Because I am so daunted by the distance, I have REALLY slowed down my longruns. I have previously done 3x half marathons - when I was younger (69-70) :) and looking at my training records, my previous training longruns were done at almost 5K pace!!! But now I am doing them 2 minutes per K slower!!! 20 K is still 20K however - and when I have finished that distance, I still hurt -- BUT I now feel much less "daunted " by 20K . It was a kind of mind boggling number in the past - but it is not now. I don't really know if this is because my brain is focusing more on the number 42.2 or if my body is simply happier doing 20 at this much slower pace. Anyway - even if I don't make it to the start line of the Marathon (which I understand I will find at the 32K mark of the marathon course) , at least I am no longer frightened by the number 20 :)

No, you are not a silly old man, but don't overdo the runs, perhaps a half marathon would suit you better, I wouldn't want you to get injured in any way at all, not being frightened by the number 20 is very good, but I would be a bit frightened by the number 42, be careful regarding running a full marathon.

Wow. Doesn't sound silly, but does sound pretty amazing! So much of this running is in the mind - a bit like aging; 20k has become your new easy, 70 is the new 60 - or more likely 50 these days 😀

You are an inspiration. I have just embarked on half marathon training. 20k seems a bit daunting at the moment, as you suggest I need to learn to slow down on the long runs.

You are so tenacious, determined, savy and smart working it all out, and yes a legend on here, I think the 42.2 k distance will be confused when you arrive on its start line and will yield to you at every stage along its path.

Did you see the latest woman who smashed the 7day/ 7 marathon/ 7 continents world challenge🤔.

You will show this distance whose boss Bazza.

Wish I could follow you, but you are away too fast for me.👊💥🏃‍♂️☄️👏👏
