PB for 5k, 3k, 2k, 1.5k, 1k, 12 mins ... at last the 10 min per mile barrier has been breached!

So, was it the 75ml of beetroot juice I consumed this morning? Or the runner's loops in my laces? Or the 5 hours per week of yoga I've been doing for the past three weeks? Something happened today, and I'm not quite sure what, but I knocked 15s per mile off my PB for my hilly home 5k route, and broke through the elusive 10 mins per mile barrier I've had my sights on for weeks.

Pleasingly, all my previous PBs for distances below 5k were also improved upon this afternoon. So now I need a new target ... 30 minutes for 5k by the end of September, and 9 min mile pace for my hilly 5k by the end of the year, perhaps? Meanwhile though, I'll just enjoy the runner's high which has put me in a ridiculously good mood since I gasped my way past the finish line (my house) today :) :) :)

An hour later, I was in the gym doing yoga, and my creaky body is definitely becoming more flexible, though my favourite pose is still the last one, where you lie flat out on the mat and relax after an hour of contortions, feeling serene (and quite often, ready for a nap!). For a final dose of feel-good-ness, I had a trip to the cinema to see Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again ... and loved it! All in all, an excellent day :)

Hey, that's fantastic. I Iove those breakthrough points. i think I'll give the beetroot juice a miss though - hate beetroot though can just about cope with it grated raw in a salad, heavily disguised.

It's quite hard to disguise beetroot - especially raw in a salad! Misswobble's right though ... it disappears into chocolate cake or brownies almost without a trace. I had the most delicious vegan chocolate beetroot avocado brownie in Food Story in Aberdeen - I'm not vegan, but it was totally scrummy :) x

I’m evangelical about the power of beetroot, so deffo it’s that 😁💪🏃‍♀️👍 Fortunately I grow lots of it I mostly roast it in the oven and it goes sweet and caramelised 😛💪Flick, betroot choc cake is fab 😛.

Well done AP. Great when a plan comes together. Yoga is marvellous I reckon. I don’t do a class, yet, but the stretches done at the gym seem familiar to me as “yoga” moves. Try warrior pose while brushing your teef 😬

Oops nearly forgot, well done AP. Great job 💪😃👍🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Thank you misswobble! My fave beetroot with dill meze is made by Nargile, our local Turkish restaurant. Utterly scrumptious! Do you use the juice before running? I know it's beneficial but don't know the details of how much or timing. Apparently it's very good for improving our brain function too!

I'm using a set of DVDs called "the ultimate yogi" for my at-home yoga classes. I'm very impressed so far. I have to modify a lot of the moves but I've had decades to get stiff so reckon it'll take a least a few months to get bendy! :) x

Beetroot is great. Very underrated. But the PB is down to you, and you alone. Well done!

Ooh I flipping love beetroot. Sadly Mr Squeak does not, so I have to wait for him to be away and then I can feast on it. But if it makes you faster then I might have to insist on having it in the house more often 😀

oh dear ... perhaps you could have a wee shredded beetroot salad on the side, so you're not deprived? :) xx

Make choc beetroot cake and don’t tell him. Then you can smugly feast on it - alone 😊😊😊😋. Well he hates beetroot, right 🤷‍♀️😇
