ANY RUNNERS WITH UNDERACTIVE THYROID?

I was diagnosed with Underactive thyroid in 2012. Prior to this and also now I'm a keen runner doing around 45 miles a week. But since diagnosis's I just cant run in the heat and it totally destroys me even after short distances. Is there anything I can do to become tolerant like I used to be?

The way to become tolerant of anything is to keep doing it! Unfortunately we (in the UK anyway) do not get the opportunity to do this because our climate is usually so much cooler. We could go to extremes and work out in a sauna throughout the year :) But probably the best advice is to adopt coping tactics such as running early in the morning or late at night when it's less hot, dressing lightly, taking water with you to drink and pour over your head, slowing down the pace and taking breaks as needed - accepting that it's just not possible to run as fast in the heat as you can in cooler temperatures. Or maybe even abandon the run altogether if it's just too hot - cross-training in an air conditioned gym, or a cool swimming pool, would be highly beneficial to fitness which could in turn improve heat tolerance.

Good luck! And please try to respond to some of the answers you get. Doesn't have to be this one, but I know there are some folk on here who understand your problem better than I do, because they also have diagnosed with hypothyroidism, and I'm sure they would like to get to know you better :)
