Hiya! Here’s an inspiring short film I just came across showing how some everyday runners are coping during these crazy COVID times. Hope the link works for you :)

This link worked for me, thanks Decker!

I wish we had some trails a bit nearer us 😊😊😊

I wonder if, like me, you may have some hidden gems and not know about them. Of course I miss everything except what’s in front if my nose 🙂With all your local running you’ve probably seen everything nearby

We have fabulous trails here, but they are all inland, so I have to run quite a few kms to get to them 😊

Decker profile image

Yeah I’ve had to drive 30min to get to some of mine too. Anything more than 30min becomes a day trip rather than a morning out

Funnily enough I was just starting to plan to drive up there, and I will do it when the restrictions are lifted 😊😊😊

Ooh now you’ve got an adventure to plan towards!

I have used buses a couple of times to get to or from a run, I definitely like having a transport option sometimes and the car would be much more fun 😊

Here's a shot taken from Devil's Dyke on the South Downs, from my Instagram:

The car park is just behind where I was standing. I'm definitely thinking about this adventure now!!!

Awesome! You should definitely do it!

Your countryside looks amazing to run too. Have you ever run the Fells? One day I hope to try that. Now to plan this weekend’s excursion...

I’ve done a short fell race and I loved it. Can’t wait to do it again but the last planned one got cancelled then they changed the date by about six months and I missed it completely

I run alone so not really going to do fells as I feel ill-equipped Plus I’d have to drive there and I can’t be arsed

The race was deffo a “fell” and run under the FRA rules, but it’s not risky to do on my own I was going to walk it with the dog but there’s cows on part of it. Some of it is filthy 😁. It’s a very steep downhill with the uphill climb on the way back. Only 7km though and I can get there on foot I keep saying I’m going to check it out in more detail as it’s where my mum was brought up on a farm 😃

I’ve walked some of Derbyshire Dales, and it struck me while there, that if the weather changed how easy it would be to get stuck We did get caught out on the return from one of them when it fell Pitch dark while we were on a high ridge heading back to the car park. Very worrying but we knew we hadn’t far to go but we were in the dark 🙈. A chap came stomping out of the darkness assuring us that we’d be fine as the search parties could hear us for miles 😁. It does make you aware though how dangerous this terrain is

I managed to hurt myself twice (quite badly) within yards of home though 🤷‍♀️☺️

If you ever do decide to walk or run there (safely) it would be great to see some photos of the landscape. I know what you mean about the danger aspect though. It is quite real in some spots and you need to be well equipped and knowledgeable about the terrain and your location - both weak spots for me 🙂. Thats why for a more remote run last year along the Bruce Trail, I’ve gone with and experienced trail runner friend. But this pandemic is getting me out to more distant spots. I just pay more attention to where I am now when I am solo 🙂

I was running with my group when I fell on my face. Running alone on a fell or moor is a different kettle of fish. You need the right gear and map reading skills etc it’s a whole new discipline Good though I’m not ruling it out 😁

Decker profile image
DeckerUltramarathon in reply to misswobble

I’ve been lucky enough to fall in softer spots so far. Need to brush up on the map reading too...

I’ve not even got a waterproof running jacket Another fell race would be an excuse to buy one

Co-Incidentally the only fell race I ever ran was called “The Wobble”

Aw, lovely. I really miss my trail runs ☹️ But this will pass eventually and then we’ll all be able to run where we want..... please 🤞🏃‍♀️🏃🙂

Sooner than later I hope. They are finally talking about opening things up here. No time soon, but at least there is hope. All the parks are closed to cars everywhere too, so I just park at a street or business nearby and run to the trailheads.

My trail car parks are locked and barred which means it might be less busy with horse riders I’ll get back on it tomorrow as I’ve a 13 k to do I kept off it as I thought it would be too busy, but I drove past it today when taking my car for it’s MOT, and saw it locked up to vehicles

I'm definitely enjoying my trail runs more than road ones. Easier on my feet too.

I'm very lucky with what's on my doorstep. If I had more time I would spend even more time on the trails but as I'm still working, as well as usual chores etc very little has changed for me.

I have had lots of great chats with strangers out and about too. People are happier to stop and chat now as seeing people outside their household is exciting 🤣👍🏻

Decker profile image
DeckerUltramarathon in reply to GoGo_JoJo

My shins are much happier on the soft ground too. After all this time they still get painful on the concrete runs. The Hokas are helping with this.

If I could spend a full weekend running I would, but life and responsibilities call as you say. Also my family would disown me. 🙄😂

I'm not chatting with people so much on the trail runs, but most everyone says hello and we give each other lots of space. Since there are usually just a few of us it is easy. It gets harder to do that once you get back into the city.

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoUltramarathon in reply to Decker

I'm finding more people than ever to chat to. I really don't care about the space issue, if they want it they can have it, for myself I absolutely am happy with the bare minimum. 🤣

Decker profile image
DeckerUltramarathon in reply to GoGo_JoJo

I’m trying to be a extra careful regarding the space as I drop groceries at my folks place each week and they are 86 and 92, so, very vulnerable to any virus, Covid or otherwise.

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoUltramarathon in reply to Decker

Definitely more worrying for you. Personally I'd happily jog through a covid ward currently, confident I would have more chance of winning the lottery than catching it but I don't have anyone to worry about. 🤷‍♀️

🤣let’s hope it doesn’t come to that!

Great video, sooo looking forward to when restrictions are ready to be eased and I can drive to my local country park for a trial run...saying that, I'm equally grateful that I've been allowed to run locally this whole time, I know some older folks or those with underlying health conditions are having to stay put which must be tremendously difficult.

I have no doubt that we will all have an even greater appreciation of the great outdoors when this is through 😍
