Hello chocolate munchers and welcome to a new week!

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. It's fabulous to see everyone's training updates each week!

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Let us know how your training, running, racing is going - did you try something you haven’t before? Got a new PB? Got some gossip to share ? Tell us about it here....

Have a wonderful week, and happy Panthering,

Ju-Ju, Rignold, and roseabi

Ugh, I'm back on the bench and somewhat worried I have to say. I'm off to see the doctor later today to beg for a swift x-ray :( It's not looking good for Brighton at least...

Still, at least I'm doing plenty of swimming, biking, and strength work. I'll be as strong as an ox by the time my leg's better πŸ’ͺπŸ‚ moo :)

I hope you get good news! Been experiencing similar anguish recently, so now I have an idea of what it's like.

Thanks '3PO :) I am getting a bit tired of all this worry about injury when I have a race coming up, it is changing my view of what I want to do in the future!

It certainly gets you down, and gives you worries you don't need.

Ooh, where's my bloke in the short shorts? Is he on his way to me? To cheer me up on my BORING IC? Thank you!

Emergency short shorts bloke needed over here, stat!!!

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphHalf Marathon in reply to roseabi

Well, he was in the photo on the 10k forum the other day, and then over here, two women on their own and no bloke! I think I was the only one who wanted him, and he looked fairly athletic so it shouldn't take him long to jog over from the other forum to my IC, surely?

Waiting. Patiently...

Chocolate munching is definitely the way to go! I've been despairing about my foot, and gave it a good rest over Easter (which we spent at home), swapping the running for long sessions on my stationary bike. I've also slept well and eaten what I've wanted.

After hearing Martin Yelling on the Marathon Talk podcast last week talk about how important the final long run is to build your confidence, I wasn't too happy, considering I hadn't done a serious long run since early March. Then, reading the Final Instructions newsletter from London Marathon, I hit a low point, wondering if I'd even be able to complete before they shut the roads. So I went out and bought myself some sports tape to strap my heel, and promised myself that I'd go to a physiotherapist if things didn't go well after the long run I had planned for today.

I'm thrilled to report that I managed to run for 3 hours, with a few walking breaks. I managed 25.1K, and ran at a fairly even pace. It was my best long run pace since before the winter started. I didn't have much in me towards the end, though. Anyway, I've done the math. If I can run at this pace on race day and walk the remaining 17K, I'll still make it before they shut the roads. What a relief! Obviously that isn't my strategy. It's just something to comfort myself with.

And my heel? It felt sore on the run, but not much, and I forgot all about it towards the end. I'll see how things go during the next few days, but now I feel I can afford to taper.

I've had a ridiculous amount of chocolate this weekend! :O

This all sounds very positive!

Decker profile image
DeckerUltramarathon in reply to C3PO

I can’t look at any more chocolate! Very happy for you and your heel! Sounds like all is ok πŸ‘πŸΌ and you are in a better head space now.

Still plugging away at my endless plan, started doing the scheduled back-to-back runs of 5 and 12 last week. I stupidly went too fast on last week’s 5 and was burned out for the 12, but the Saturday group run was great and this morning’s 5k was good too. I kept a slower pace on this one so hopefully tomorrow’s 12 will be a good one too. The 18k runs start this Saturday.

not had much choc i’m Happy to say. I just have a piece of good dark, choc now and then, grated over my fruit and yogurt. Glad I didn’t as I had the gym today and it was quite tough so I was glad no ,to be over-eaten.

My current run plans end this week. Just three runs to go before I start a new plan for my two Hill races in May. I have a 10k trail race this month so training will include this one as well.

Gym stuff going well and it got a bit harder today πŸ’ͺπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜ƒ

I entered a series of three Hill races yesterday, and for those who run all three, there is to be a commemorative β€œaward” πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I shall find out some time mid July πŸ™‚

So, plenty to be going on with πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘πŸ™‚πŸ’ͺπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ§˜β€β™€οΈπŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ Not swimming yet still πŸ˜’

Well, it was quite a positive experience. The doctor said she didn't think it's a fracture, but sent me for an x-ray anyway, which I will have tomorrow. She seemed very keen to get me to my marathons, and said I should ring the surgery if things didn't improve soon :) She also suggested that I see a private sports physio to ask their opinion, which I actually already had booked for next week. So here's hoping! My leg's pretty sore walking at the moment, but I've only been resting it for a week so will apply a little more patience. I might not manage Brighton, but maybe London is still possible. The main thing, though, is that I can do London2Brighton because that one's for charity :O

I'm definitely rethinking my goals after this is over...

Good doc! 🀨 sounds like she’s on the ball πŸ‘at least an x-ray will reassure you one way or the other

My calf micro tear took several weeks. Hopefully it’s not that either πŸ™‚

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to misswobble

What did the calf micro tear feel like, MW?

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply to roseabi

It was weird when it happened as I was only on a slow jog and I think I was nearing the end when it suddenly stopped me in my tracks. It was a searing pain. Like a hot knife going up the back of my calf and my I had to stop. It came without warning. I rested for a week I think before trying again. It was still awful so I rested another week. Still no go. I rested a full three weeks after that. I had a race coming up so didn’t run at all til race day I did lose some fitness but I was ok on the race thankfully

roseabi profile image
roseabiUltramarathon in reply to misswobble

Ooh, nasty :( I bet you felt nervous during that race! But you've stayed really fit since, haven't you?

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply to roseabi

It was a ten miler with some hills and a long steady uphill climb at the 4K from the end. I think by then I was relieved to be virtually home and dry. I was slower than the year Before but I blamed chatting to friends for that πŸ™‚. I was pretty tired afterwards but ok during, so that’s all right πŸ™‚

I had a problem before my marathon. Three weeks before πŸ™„. I pulled up with a painful hip at 33km, and hobbled home I think it was too many hills on the trail. I got the merino pants after that so I wouldn’t get cold hips πŸ™‚

I am doing work in the gym now to toughen me up so I don’t get hip pain or a sagging frame when the going gets tough. Enjoying it too πŸ’ͺπŸ˜ƒ

Hi! I tried the C25K+ speed podcast today and loved it! Oh, and watched a documentary on the infamous Barkley Marathons on Netflix today, which is mad, but totally worth watching.

Aw, you are welcome! Glad everyone enjoyed it, it is thoroughly gripping! You might also want to try β€œFinding Traction” on Netflix. It’s about ultra runner Nikki Kimball, and is equally inspiring! x

I will! My oldest doesn't usually watch films (Aspergers, ADHD), so I was thrilled to find something he'd watch with us. Will definitely try "Finding Traction".

Oooh well done! I run them a lot. I quite like it when Stamina crops up when i’m On a long run as the music is quite hypnotic, or catatonic 😁

Once you get used to them you can run them in random order πŸ‘πŸ’ͺπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ™‚

Had a bad run last week so took whole holiday weekend off (4 days) and did a gentle 10k jog Tues to test out the rested legs. Seem ok again if a bit stiffish so back on track with Asics plan. This week will be 10k jog, 12k run 5:40 min, 16k jog, 12k jog 5:40 min.
