Back to the grind. I hope

Hi everyone. Im a newby. I ran London Marathon last year and since then my running has dwindled to nothing. I haven't put on my trainer in 2/3 months. Everyone I ran with are now smashing PBs and I can even run 2 miles at 12 min mile. London ended up for me being the killer of my running journey. Was the worst run ever. Nothing went to plan. I know I should be proud of my achievements' but I'm usually quite hard on myself at the best of times.

Decided to get back to basics. My only issue now is the actual getting out the door. I know once Ive done it ill be fine. So Ive joined this to see if im inspired. My pals have given up kicking my arse now I think, couldn't blame them. I bought running tights which are 2 sizes bigger as I can no longer get in to my old ones. Maybe Ill go and buy new shoes. Used to help before lol

Hi Kazza, and welcome to the forum! It's lovely to see you here.

You said it yourself, you just need to get out of the door. Don't buy new shoes, go for a run instead. Sign up for a 10K or half marathon and tell us all about it! Don't be hard on yourself be kind, and treat yourself to a lovely running training plan.

Maybe I could interest you in a nice shiny 'Marathon' badge to go next to your name on this forum? Then you would have to get moving in order to live up to it :)

Well now you have told us about yourself it is time to hop off the couch and get out there again. The marathon training was, I imagine, very consuming so it is easy to see how one can fall out of love with running. But you have arrived here so you must be feeling like lacing up your trainers again. Set yourself some realistic goals such as running twice a week with short but increasing distances. Gradually you will get back into the habit of running then book into some events as Roseabi has suggested. You will get back running again.

Hi Kazza, First off, anyone who has done a full marathon has all my respect, regardless of how you are doing now. Secondly, if you found the monumental will to complete that task, then with the support here, I am sure you will be back at it in no time. First step, I suppose, is to head out for a run...

Hello Kazza! And well done on last year's marathon - what a great achievement! (If you've done it before you could potentially do it again surely, if that's what you wanted...)

I agree with the others about getting back into the habit of running, doing it for fun, remembering why you started in the first place... and then perhaps looking into more manageable events to build up your motiviation and to help you make some good racing memories to counterbalance the bad feeling you have about the London marathon.

Don't look at the others achieving PBs - what do YOU want? Well you obviously want to run, or you wouldn't have come here. So why do you want to run? Health, mental well-being, fitness, weight? Are you achieving those aims by sitting on the couch? Probably not! Wil you be on the way to achieving them if you go out for a run?

Don't be too hard on yourself. Blimey you've run a marathon. That's VERY impressive. Do you want to do it again? Or do you just want to build up a level of fitness so you can run 5, 10k or even a HM? I know that's my aim.

Whatever the situation, just go for a run or re-do the c25k programme. You won't regret it!

No. But. All my gear has been set on the bed ready for when I get in the door after work. Going to have a wee bimble along the river. I have just moved into a new home and through this would be a great way of getting to know the area. The journey starts at 1800 hours TONIGHT!!! :-)

Moving house is always a huge stress but it can also mean a new beginning, which would dovetail nicely with starting running again, and like you say, it's a good way of getting to know your new area.

I DID IT! Was only 2.5 miles and bloody sluggish. I thought I'd put on weight when I was marathon training. That was muscle, I know this now as last night I'd really felt the weight of fat rather than muscle. I did a lot of stopping but all in all was a lovely route. And now I have something to work and build on. Hopefully next year I will try another marathon again. Until now I'm working on getting to a 5 K without stopping. But yeh. I did it at least
