10k to Half Marathon training: A Welcome Back Run

Hi everyone! What's up?

I took the week off running just to relieve some of the mental pressure I had unnecessarily built up in my head. I've been stretching and doing light workouts but otherwise, it's been nice to take a break. I kickstarted my training with a 5km run which left me feeling very accomplished. That first run is always hard; forcing yourself to get out of the door - but it's always worth it!

If I follow my training plan, I have three more long-distance runs until I reach my 20km goal. So far I have run 15km - my farthest run - which leaves me with quite a bit of time to make it I think! More than anything I don't want to rush and injure myself, so I will continue to listen to my body and take those longer breaks if I need to.

It finally snowed here in the UK for a couple of days, I'd love to hear if anyone ran in it!

Well done getting going on your 10k to ½marathon challenge. I did my week 2 long run or 14k on Monday in the snow, it then continued snowing until late last night. On childcare duties for the rest of the week so no runs as I dont fancy snowy runs in the dark. Taking your time with no pressure to reach your ½marathon target sounds like a grand plan. I wish you all the best. Happy running 🤗

Sweet! Yes running in the snow in the dark is a recipe for disaster 😬 Congrats on the 14k!

Sounds good! A week off can be great for recharging the legs. I've run in some snow, the last couple of weeks, but stuck to the fields as they're less slippy than pavements - still have to watch out though as it's so easy to turn an ankle on the frozen ruts under the snow. It's a slow business!

I can imagine, one must remain focused! You did it though!

Taking time off every now and again is good and pays big dividends in the long term but you’re right, that first run back is always a bit 😬

I haven’t run for over a month so didn’t run in the snow but I have now managed a couple of “return” runs but still no snow 🙂

Good on you for getting back out there, you did it! I have to remind myself not to overdo the runs, but it always feels good getting back out there 😊

Well done for getting back out there, I know it's always hard once you've had a break! I took this week off because of the snow and ice and opted for walking instead of running- I don't want to risk slipping and injuring myself. Even when I walk it's more of penguin waddle on the icy roads 🐧😆
