So, I’m considering doing my first half marathon this year about May-June. My question is in regard to training for such. Is it realistic to train on a programme of three runs a week from now until then? Appreciate any thoughts. Currently I run between 6-8k twice a week and one longer run of 10-16k

Definitely realistic. I did my first few HMs with three runs a week. It is true that once I switched to four runs a week last summer, I improved my time significantly. But that could be because I'm a tortoise.
That’s interesting thanks... what is your four run schedule?
More or less like this: Long run on Tuesday (increasing by 2K every week up to 21K), easy run 6-10K Thursday and Sunday, 6-10K tempo run/intervals on Friday. I think my max mileage was about 40K right before my latest HM.
When working towards my Xmas marathon, I did a run streak for the first 20 days of December, and that really helped keep my mileage close to 40-45K despite the cold and ice. I kept my long run and filled the rest of the week with as short runs as possible to meet my weekly target.
if you can do 16k then you only need to do 5k more for a half, easy to do it. Stop thinking and just sign up!
16 weeks training with 3 runs per week is pretty standard. You'll be fine, do it do it do it!!!
