Amazingly I'm still on my streak, despite my worries in another thread. I hosted a party for 60 on Saturday (and made all the desserts). So I did 2.5K on my treadmill before going to bed on Friday, and did almost 3K early Saturday. I was very pleased with myself. Yesterday morning I headed out for a 5K run, but the temp was -11 and I was more tired than I realized, so my pace was pretty dreadful.
I do think I need to wind up this streak soon, and give myself a rest before the marathon next week. I'm considering keeping it going until Christmas Eve, so I can finish that training advent calendar. That will give my legs a couple of days to rest. I'm open to any objections though.
I don't think it's a problem to continue with those short runs, keeps the legs moving. With the couple of days off at the end should be fine. Be sure to keep drinking plenty of water in the week leading up to the marathon And oooh, keep calm and good luck!!!!
Thanks! I got a bit nervous about the forecast this morning for rain on race day. I don't think I'm up to 5 hours of icy rain. Hopefully the forecast will change before then.
I am in the final stages of the HM training (still asking myself why I chose to do this HM training now - didn't really think that schedule through ) - It is still cold out, but the deep -20 freeze is over for now and we have some more snow. Went out on Sat to do the 17k, but with the spikes and snowy trails, I broke down at 14, even with a rest break! :). My pace was slower than usual too. I have a new respect for those that can run long distances in spikes in the snow and ice. So now I'm thinking of doing some shorter runs (maybe some 5s and 7s) to get back into the fun part of it, since there are no actual races scheduled until the spring. Don't want to take it toooo seriously right now. Not sure if Asics will boot me for delaying the long run too much
Goodness yes, be careful out there! Much respect to you, and yah boo and sucks to Asics (Not really, sorry Asics, don't kill me, I've got so much to give...)
I had a really good last week, I did two sets of strength training, a swim, and a couple of runs, the second one was an 8k and I felt proper good out there, like I could carry on for miles and miles This week is beginning to look a lot like Christmas, so I'm not sure if it'll go so well (I already took a day off yesterday, ha). Still doing my eccentric heel dips though. I've got this great app on my phone that reminds me to take medications and do my eccentric heel dips
On week 6 of my training plan and feeling AMAZING! I went on vacation last week and got all of my training runs in (including my 11 mile long run) and the fatigue/pain I was feeling two weeks ago has gone away. Someone on this page suggested I had started training too fast, too soon after a half and they were right. I did the unthinkable and skipped my 10 mile run last weekend and that did the trick. Calf pain went away completely because it ended up being 6 full days without running.
I am very excited to train this week. Did an easy 5 yesterday and have some speedwork planned for tomorrow. My running group isn't meeting because of the holiday so I'll have to do my long run of 12 by myself. Same with the 13 mile run in 2 weeks and then we will be meeting up weekly.
Tonight I am getting a sports massage and going on the rest of the training (12 more weeks) I will be getting one every sunday. I decided that would be my gift to myself to push through training and recover the best I can.
