Fundraising tips?

Hi all! I hope you have good running weather this weekend. Last week inspiration struck, and decided to see if I could get a charity place for the London Marathon with Tommys. I strongly suspect I wouldn't have my son - or any children - if I hadn't been living in the UK at the time I had him. Anyway, on Friday I received confirmation of my place.

I'm not writing this post to ask for sponsorship or anything, so you can all relax. From what I understand, it's OK if I put info in my bio, right? So maybe I'll ask next spring - we'll see. Running for charity isn't a thing in Norway, and the reason I've chosen Tommys is that it's a cause I know several of my friends will be able to identify with. I'm turning 50 in December, and I figure I don't need anything, so I'm basically going to ask my friends to donate to the cause as their present to me. I think I should be able to raise at least half of the money that way.

I'm thinking about hosting an afternoon tea, and asking people to either pay an entrance fee or a per slice price. Any experience with what works best? I'm also thinking of hosting a board game day, with old-fashioned games like old Monopoly, Game of Life, Cluedo. I thought I'd serve pizza and soft drinks, and charge money the same way I already mentioned. Finally, I plan to getting around to selling used things.

Do you have any other tips for me? I figure that people in my neighborhood won't be terribly interested in sponsoring a foreign charity, but I'm open to ideas.

Great idea, and a great charity.

The afternoon tea, and games event sound good. Maybe you could have a mini raffle at them too? Get someone ( or a local company/ shop) to donate a prize. A friend of mine organised a quiz night at a local pub which was fantastic. Another friend has done lots of fundraising, including tea towels which she designed herself, to a poetry book with poems from all her friends - this year she is producing a diary with photos from all her friends on the theme of creativity. Then we all buy them as Christmas presents!

Good luck!

We have done several charity suppers. From that experience I would charge an entrance fee for each. Have additional tempting cakes at each incase folk want more or to take home.

Great cause, good luck!

You have several ways to go with this, just make a plan and stick to it!

It depends on who you want to invite, so sort the event to suit your guests, e.g. Afternoon tea and cakes, or fast food, e.g. Pizza, coleslaw chips or jacket and salad I would go with one or the other depending on your punters. Be careful,of food! You might need to be aware of heating and temp regulations so keep it simple 🙂

Tombola is usually, popular and you can aim that at say ladies, gents and children or just one general one
