I have been offered someones GNR place cause he is unable to run. Not a charity one a ballot. However i would be running with his name/number and I am female. Cant see if this is allowed just can see about cancellation/deferred entry and refunds.
Don’t want to get into trouble however the place would go to waste.
Any advice I am in a moral dilemma !
Happy Tuesday

I would check with either the organisers or some other runners you know regarding that situation, there are many rules, so check out that you running in place of some one else is OK.
PS, I think that you are too late to run in the Great North Run in place of another runner, Google "Rules for The Great North Run" there is a bit regarding your situation.
Yeah I have emailed the organisers but have no reply. Its my local so I could go to race info to change details if required 5 mins from my workplace. Other runners are just saying go for it and say nothing! We will see what and comes back from them.
According to an FAQ on Runners World "Under no circumstances are runners allowed to give their number to another runner"
Depending on your reasons for wanting to take part in the run, you'll need to be aware that if found out you may not be eligible to run in this event again. 🤷♀️
Also your achievement will go down on record as his...
I think it's more than you could be viewed on a par with a bandit runner. If an official spots the name you could be pulled from the race, or disqualified, even potentially barred from future events, which could include other events they run, not just GNR.
Having said that, there's a bit on the GNR website that says he can transfer it to you by paying a 10 quid fee, but that's only before race pack is received...
I wouldn’t enjoy the run in that situation Smile23. I’d be thinking I’d be found out - plus you’d have his name on the bib which would be a dead giveaway unless it’s a unisex one like Chris or Alex etc. I’m very risk averse though - whenever I’m driving and see a police car I assume it’s me they’re chasing (it never is I hasten to add!) 😅
Me too. I think It would spoil it for me. I would be a colin😂not very transferable! Lets hope the organisers get back to me with a resolution. There is always next year.
Well I’ve had a handful of parking fines ……. one you know about 😂 ……. and a few speeding tickets way back when, but I’m very angelic behind the wheel, honest! 😇
I think your concern about doing it comes from the place in you that respects the Running community and activity. How satisfying will it be if you do run under these circumstances? Maybe your answer will settle your mind one way or the other...
Another person asked the exact same thing a few years back on the RW forum. The advice was split. Someone mentioned that runners sell their numbers in ebay, I've checked and its true, there's currently 7 listings...🤷♀️
One point of interest though was the fact that should something happen you wouldn't be covered by the race insurance
Yes I cam see why you shouldnt for all the right reasons. This is non profit for anyone and would just go to waste. Lets hope the organisers say I can go and pay to change the details then I will run. Cancer research will benefit if I do x
I saw loads of runners at the Cambridge HM clearly running with someone else's number, the guy who came in right after me was called Sofie or some such. The winner was running on someone else's number and came clean when they called him u to accept some kind of prize. Not sure what I'd do, probably not take him up on it....
Your friend shouldn't have suggested it - this is in the Great RunTerms & Conditions:

If you are found to be in breach of this Condition 3.4 we reserve the right to exclude you from participation in future Events.
