...while preparing a marathon???

I am not in any specific preparation but I am running a lot and for the last few years I have had problems sitting all day in the office. My old job had a standing desk, but the new one (started in February) has not, so I have to sit most days most of the time (lot of computer/desk base work!!!

Is anybody in the same situation?

How do you cope with that?

What sort of pain? I just find occasionally that my legs ache/are stiff when I get up from my chair after sitting for a while if I did a hard or long run the day before or in the morning.

it's mainly annoying, sitting all day makes my leg ache and stiff too, and when I get up I feel not in a good shape, very difficult to walk around if I have done a long run (didn't happen standing). I think I Cannot recover properly, some stretching helps... I will try the ball, otherwise more standing but I would get less work done (not good).

I should say my long run are mostly in working days early mornings.

Yes, you need to move around regularly otherwise the muscles are like to ache. WhenI did c25k last year I sometimes could hardly walk after getting up from my chair the following day! Things have improved, but I don't do anything longer than 5.5k in the mornings and generally don't run that often before work.

Yeah, I did a long-ish (19k) run this morning, and also went windsurfing last night (I must be crazy!). Today I have been at my desk since showering and my legs and lower back certainly feel a bit stiff! Ideally after a long run I would like to have a bath and then keep moving after that, go for a nice walk or something. Oh well :)

I try to get up as often as possible - getting coffee, glass of water or going to the loo. I can also walk to the copier/printer if I want (there's one right next to my desk, but the good one means getting up and walking a few metres). I'm also in the lucky position of having an excuse to go and talk to anyone I want, or even just wandering around the office, as I'm head of the works council and contact with the staff comes with the job! My own work has been reduced and only takes up about 50% of my time - as long as I get it done the boss doesn't mind when or how. Needless to say I still sit in front of a computer for far too long every day and do way too much overtime. But running really helps and I haven't been really stiff for a long time.

I keep moving while sitting, stretching legs, clenching bum, flex muscles etc, get up and walk around about every hour...
