Vabysmo injections

Hi all I have been having Eyelea injections for about 3 years, every eight weeks and i feel they have worked very well . My vision has been very clear. However my consultant changed me to Vabysmo five weeks ago as he said...I wasn't going long enough between injections. This month my sight has not been as good as normal and I am due back next week for a second Vabysmo injection but in both eyes this time. Has anyone else experienced this after a change of injections? Should I continue with the vabysmo? I'm really worried. Thank you.

hi there I was on Eyela since 2016 stayed on it and had it for every month with it as I’m not able to elongate my injections to 6 or eight weeks. Last year they switched me to Vanysmo bur for me it didn’t go well. I had my loading injections and we then switched me back to Eylea. BUT I have DMO not AMD also only 1 seeing eye which has poor vision and I have ischemia in that eye so for me I think using it with ischemia was not the right decision.. you may need to finish the loading injections before switching back. It is a thicker drug than Eylea hence where my issue lies it could not get through to where it was needed due to ischemia l. I was on the NICE TA committee for this drug and have mentioned about the ischemia to them as it did not come into conversation.while on the Yanysmo committee .

Hi tallyho thank you for your helpful comments as always. Sorry to hear about your issues. I have occular hypertension too as I've mentioned before and use drops so I often don't know what is causing my blurriness. I also have poor sight in my left eye but my right eye is still working relatively well. It was my right eye that was injected which us why I was worried. My consultant also said because I'd used eyelea I didn't need a loading dose of Vabysmo which I thought was odd. I'm due back Tuesday 25th for my next injections. It will be 6 weeks and he wants to inject both eyes. Take care.

Hi there interesting about the loading dose I still had to have that regardless of Eylea. I will look into the guidance as I am sure we did not mention that in the their ONLY if you have had that drug before do you not need a loading dose. Like I did not need another loading dose of Eylea when I went back on it.

I think my consultant tends to be a bit Gung ho sometimes. I know I've had injections in my left eye when it's been dry so "I don't have to come back again too soon" I'd be interested in your NICE guidance! Thanks.

I have been on both vabysmo and Eyelea HD. One of my eyes can go 16 weeks. The other eye can’t get past 8 weeks without a leak, so that’s been disappointing for me. It’s different for everyone.

Thank you lesliejayne that's helpful I'd love to go 16 weeks but we'll see. Are you still having Vabysmo?

I was switched from 8 weeks Eyelea injections to Vabysmo on my bad eye and I am now going 16 weeks between injections which is a big improvement. I was given the loading doses every 4 weeks when I switched to Vabysmo. I am being checked with a scan after 8 weeks but that is to check my other eye which dried up after the initial loading doses of Eyelea but occasionally leaks and seems to need a single injection once a year. I did get a batch of visual disturbance migraines but that has mostly cleared up after getting new lenses for my glasses.

Hi SueMulk thanks for replying. That's very encouraging. I hope the Vabysmo continues to work for you. Good luck.

My sister and I both receive injections for wet macular degeneration. After an injection of Vabysmo she lost vision in her right eye and vision is unlikely to return. So when my retinal specialist suggested that I switch from Eyelea to Vabysmo I was very reluctant. He understood my concerns so sticking with Eyelea for now.

Dear EthelPledge94,

It is important that you contact your ophthalmologist at the hospital eye clinic, via their secretary, with your concerns regarding Vabysmo. It is very important to always report any deterioration in vision.

Kind regards,
