I have had 5 eylea injections in my right eye for wet amd. Everytime I have an injection, I begin experiencing joint pain, body wide, swelling of the ankles and lower legs, stiffness especially after sitting or laying down! This lasts at least 4 weeks, then, if I have a bit of a vacation from the injections, the soreness and stiffness begins to resolve, only to begin again with the next injection. The doctor has been dismissive of this side effect. Has anyone else experienced this?

Eylea injections and joint pain

Hi Iwannasee. Funny, this was going through my mind last night and I considered posting. I have had two loads of 3 Eylea injections of late (3rd due 3rd Jan) and am experiencing a lot of pain and stiffness in my right elbow (tennis elbow symptoms) , also both knee joints painful and stiff. It has come on since the latest round of injections. I've never suffered before. It could also be my age, 57, but I haven't undertaken any new exercise regime or exherted myself in any new way. It is a clinical trial, I understand, and I have had other side effects (respiratol) which I linked to Eylea. Everything comes with a risk unfortunately.
Well, I had originally thought my symptoms were just getting older, overdoing it, not exercising enough. But I just kept feeling worse and worse. Then I had a 6 week break between shots and Dr was ill, so my appt was postponed another 2 weeks. That gave more time for the side effects to clear. I gradually felt better and better until I was feeling fantastic, my old self! As I said, Dr was dismissive so I agreed to another injection. Within 2 days, the symptoms began returning and now at the 2 week mark, I struggle to get out of a chair, my knees ache etc. This can't be good for the rest of me! And I plan to have a longer discussion with the doctor!
Hi Iwannasee. I came across this web page. Joint stiffness is a rare side effect of Eylea injections. drugs.com/sfx/eylea-side-ef...
Yes, I saw this side effect after I was already experiencing discomfort, so I know I wasn't being a hypochondriac! Thanks for the link.
Hi Iwannasee. I had an Eylea injection yesterday - I mentioned that I would update you on seemingly related joint pain. Today, my 'tennis elbow' is flaring up. I also have itchy patches of skin in various areas of body. (I'd forgotten itching was a side effect - I have it regularly after injections.)
Interesting, but unfortunate. I wish there was a better alternative that didn't cause this discomfort! I'm almost 4 weeks out from my last injection and my symptoms are beginning to lessen. I'm now totally convinced it is caused by the medication. But now what to do? That's a big question! I'm sorry you are having this side effect!
So I am wondering how you are feeling after your recent injection? Are you experiencing any joint this time? I am nearly 7 weeks out from the most recent jab and all that remains is aggravated knee pain in previously injured joints. But it's much intensified, I wonder if it's the inflammation from the eylea aggravating this(originally rather mild) situation. I hope you are doing better!
I have had numerous Eyelea injections and never linked any joint pain to the injections, just thinking the arthritis is playing up again. I’m due a jab on the 13th January and will take note of any stiffness or pain in joints following it. As you are having such a reaction to Eyelea perhaps your doctor could change to something else. Hope things improve for you.
