diabetic macular oedema or not!

I went for my review at the eye clinic today and the doctor there said she couldn’t understand why my right eye was not improving but my right eye had. She also said that it was strange as my blood sugars were very well controlled. She went off to speak to a consultant and the result of that was I am having injections every month for 3 months and also a fluorescein angiography to see if it could be to do with the blood flow to my eye.

Has anyone any knowledge of this.

Thanks

Hi there sorry to read this so they are giving you 3 eye injections 4 weeks apart and are also going to see if you have a blockage of a vessel within your eye. This would be a Fluresein angiogram or FA sometimes done with dye and more recently being done without . This will tell if you have ischemia within your eye which is why the injections may not be working sd they should. I have ischemia and DMO, worse in left eye than right so we carry on treatment in my right. May I ask where globally you are?

If it helps the Macular Society run a support group for those with DMO and also for those with Retinopathy it’s a very supportive group

I am in England, Shropshire.

I have joined the macular society when I was diagnosed with DMO.

My doctor, a young lady wants to check out blood supply to the eye as the oedema in my left eye has not needed treatment for over 9 months and my right eye is stable but not improving. Also the fact that my diabetes is well controlled is making her wonder if it could be something else. She mentioned the blood supply to my right eye, I do have an illness called polymyalgia rheumatica which is inflammatory autoimmune illness.

Do they treat your ischemia as my eye doctor mentioned laser treatment.

My FA is being dne with dye, not sure when as we are off to Australia next week for 3 months.

Thank you for replying

Australia !!!wow have a fantastic time. There is no treatment for ischemia but the laser might seal blood vessels which may perhaps then improve blood flow in other areas that’s my humble guess.

Oooh I’ve just had another fluorescein angiogram done but with dye again. I didn’t know it could be done without, and certainly wasn’t offered that option. I’m at The Royal Free in London being treated for PDR (no DMO) which started bleeding a year ago after 10+ years stability (post- lots of laser many years’ ago).
