New diagnosis - Full thickness macular hole!

Hello everyone here, I'm new to these pages although I am on the Fibromyalgia pages.

There was me, minding my own business and watching TV towards the end of January. When I took off my varifocals and rubbed my right eye.

It was then I noticed the on screen face became more of a Picasso. What's more the nice straight lines of the vertical blind developed an 'X' as my gaze followed the lines down towards the window ledge.

I had recently been thinking my sight had been getting a little blurred and fuzzy but thought this could've come from several contributing factors. 18 months since my last eye test, wearing varifocals, new job with a lot of screen work and concentrated training. Oh yes, and let's not forget the fibromyalgia!

Well thanks to the Picasso clue I immediately got myself into the opticians. Many thanks to Boots in Cleveleys for squeezing me in.

Fast forward to now and following the opticians visit, hospital referral, appointment with locum ophthalmologist I'm now waiting for the 2nd May when I see the Consultant Ophthalmologist..for treatment plan.

Talk about whirlwind care! I've not really had time to come to terms with everything yet.

very interesting possible connection with fibromyalgia. My sister who has fibromyalgia has also recently had similar issues with eyesight. I do hope you get some treatment with a positive result as many of us on this site have. Wishing you well and do keep us posted with how you get on.

Sorry to hear you have to wait so long to see a consultant. Do get in touch with the Macular Society, Tel. 0300 3030 111. They have an advocacy department that will try and get you an appointment sooner. The Macular Society are wonderful. and reassured, comforted and helped me a lot when I was first diagnosed like you. My symptoms were almost identical to yours. Good luck, and like Shimano says, tell us how you get on. Sending you a hug xx

I had surgery for a macular hole in November. My vision is not perfect but much better.

Don’t worry about the surgery - it is fine and I’m very squeamish about eyes. For the ‘face down’ bit I recommend you hire a special chair from Face Down Support - it was very comfortable and I could watch tv, read and even snooze. The gas bubble is not much fun to be honest, it is great when it goes.

Best wishes
