Blindness from Eyelea injection...

I've had three injections since Eyelea was introduced into my treatment. The last one (July 06) something very unusual happened. Before I've had some very minor discomfort and blurring of vision and it cleared up in a couple of hours. This time, however, I ended up totally blind in my left eye. The 'attendant/nurse' took me to the patient waiting room, gave me a pill for eye pressure and told me to sit there for thirty minutes. It took about twenty before I began to see light in the eye and then another ten to fifteen minutes before it cleared enough for me to leave. I was told that this sometimes happens. I had an appointment yesterday, I reminded everyone of what had happened. My doctor looked at the 'pictures', was satisfied that both eyes were doing well and did not inject. He also stressed that it probably was eye pressure and it does happen sometimes. I just want people to know about this and not be caught off guard if it happens and by all means DO speak up!

My Retina Specialists checks for high eye pressure after every Eylea injection & relieves the pressure the few times it was needed over the past 4 years.

That must have been very frightening for you, so glad it resolved. I’m always checked for pressure after each Eyelea jab.

Hi there eye pressure is def one of the things that causes blurriness after an injection. I am under 2 hospitals for my eyes. In London they look after my ocular hypertension and cateracts and closer to where I live my DMO, Diplopia, ptosis and ocular myasthenia. I always have iopodine drops before and after my injection because that is what the London hospital has requested. I only see centrally from the eye injected so it is difficult after an injection but I think the iopodine helps.

I get temporary blindness almost ALWAYS after my Eylea injection. At first, it was very frightening, but after about 8 injections, I have come to expect it. The impaired vision condition lasts about 10 minutes, and then slowly good vision returns. Yes, it has something to do with increasing eye pressure.

I have glaucoma as well as wet Macular degeneration. Before I go to the RS office to get my Eylea injection, I put a drop of Dorzolamide, a glaucoma drop, in my eyes to drop my pressure some since a injection in eye can raise your IOP. I know that was scary. Good luck

I have suffered a loss of vision after my 7th eylea injection-But I had also suffered from the nurse scratching my cornea in several places. I was in absolute agony and fear. I live 2 hours from the clinic and no-one was available to take me to hospital. I spent 7 and a half hours in eye emergency the next day when I could drive myself !! only to be told it was an accepted risk . needless to say I refused my next injection-to give the eye time to recover. No-one ever told me why it had happened. But I have now developed an intolerance to iodine and I can't have it anywhere near my eye and I suffer pain at every injection since . I have recently switched to lucentis as nothing was happening with eylea injections. I took photos of my face /eye to show the very swollen eyelid, the watery eye and the bright red eye days after the injections.
