Hi, i was diagnosed with CSR in 2012 at the age of 34 and told it was nothing to worry about and would last about 6 to 18 months. 9 years later, cases in both eyes, reviews every 3 months. several flourescein angiograms, I am now on lucentis injections. Has anyone had any success with these injections for this condition?

diverge Hi - I am 35 year old male with Central Serous. I started dealing with CSR about 10 years ago in my right eye only, and monitored it for 2-3 years without any treatments because the fluid would come and go, but no permanent damage was ever caused by the fluid. After those first 2-3 years, I was treated with a laser, Photodynamic Therapy, because the fluid was no longer going away on it's own. The PDT laser was successful for about 6 years, until about two years ago when I relapsed and the fluid came back to my right eye. We monitored it for a while without treatment, but the fluid would not go away, so we started injections of which I cannot recall the prescriptions. Those injections were with different prescriptions, and they worked with minimal success. Then the CSR spread to my left eye, and we injected that eye, but again with no success. Doctor wanted to do PDT laser again, but I urged him to try a Micropulse laser because there is no chance for scarring and permanent vision loss with the Micropulse laser. Micropulse worked on the first round on my right eye. He administered the Micropulse to my left eye, no success with the first treatment, but with the second treatment, I have seen the fluid diminish almost completely. I would have your doc try the Micropulse laser if the injections are not working for you, and if that doesn't work, move to the PDT laser, but be aware that the PDT laser can potentially cause scarring and permanent damage. My doctor is John Khadem in New York City, I travel three hours every 4-6 weeks to see him, and it is well worth it. I've received second opinions from two other docs, and John Khadem is the best I have seen. He is at the top of his profession, and he has all of the equipment right in his office to administer any laser or treatment you may require. Good luck with everything, I hope it works out for you.

Hi, I have had CSR for six years in my right eye and for years in my left. I have had Luscentis injections and it made no difference in my right eye. In my left eye, I got a new leak right after the injection. The consultant said that the injection could not have caused it but I'm sceptical as it seems to be too much of a coincidence.

I also had PDT which seemed to stop things progressing but it didn't make an improvement.

I still have fluid in both eyes but my vision seems to have settled now albeit at a level which means I can no longer drive. I've accepted this and am not having further injections as, for me, at best, they didn't help and, at worst, they made things worse.

I've not heard other people saying that injections made things worse but my consultant may be right. I'm just not irritated to take the risk.

I'm in York, UK.

Hi ,

Thank you both for the response. It is nice to know other peoples stories with what seems quite a rare and strange condition.

I have CSR in both eyes but am only having the injections in my right eye. 3 days after the second injection i went to eye casualty as i could hardly see and was diagnosed with a big bleed in the central vision. Coincidental?

Is PDT the cold laser treatment? This has been talked about for a few years but i cannot get it at my local hospital in Middlesbrough and Newcastle hospital seem to be knocking back the referals for whatever reason.

This condition never used to cause me much of an issue but my vision is now getting worse and the bleeds arent disapearing by themselves. I hope the injections can help but I am a bit sceptical.

Hi

PDT is not automatically funded by the NHS. My consultant had to apply for funding for it and she based the application on me being if working age therefore worth the cost.

You might be able to ask your hospital to apply for funding on your behalf?
