I asked members here about washing out with saline after injections recently as I had started getting keratitis ( severe inflammation / inability to tolerate light/ pain) after last two lots of injections ( I have had 38 now) in both eyes. Studies were vague about whether washing iodine out after injection increased infection risk and several of you kindly sent me more details. When I had my appointment yesterday I was told the doctors had been discussing my emailed enquiry and they thought it was OK to have the wash out, The doctor also agreed with me that putting the hyclearr drops in BEFORE the washout, which the nurse had done on these two occasions when I was so sore, may well have sealed in the iodine. The nurse didn't agree that would have been the cause but waited until after the washout yesterday,
I had a little of the severe irritation for short time later in the evening but nowhere near the level of the last two lots of injections so that s a great relief!!
The clinical advice person at the RNIB had looked for studies for me and couldn't find an answer but did find that keratitis itself can lead to infection as the eye is damaged so I think I will be sticking with washout and perhaps waiting to use the hyclear drops later in the day.
Thank you for all the previous replies and hope this is not too long-winded but wanted to post as it may help someone else in same position!!
