Eylea injection
Hi Kellbean; What are you being treated for?
Hi. Most times, when one starts Eylea injections, there first needs to be a "Load Dose" of 3 injections spaced 4 weeks apart. You would most likely not see any improvement until at minimum 2 to 3 weeks after the 2nd load dose injection, but more often than not, it would take until about 2 weeks after the 3rd load dose injection to start seeing improvement.
After the 3 load dose injections, your doctor will determine the spacing for further injections. For me, we (doctor & I) went to six weeks spacing for about 4 more shots and then went to 7 weeks for a few and finally to 8 weeks.
I have been getting the Eylea shot in my right eye for about 3 years now. For me, 8 weeks is my maximum as going to 9 weeks caused the bleed from WMD to slightly return & my vision deteriorates to pre-shot levels. . My Retina specialist prefers 7 weeks with 8 weeks as a maximum if there should ever be a reason I can't make a 7 week appointment. However, every person is different. I have read where some people have been able to go3, 4, & even 5 months between Eylea injections, while others had to stay at every 4 weeks. For me, it is 7 weeks to 8 weeks maximum.
As for improvement, for my right eye with WMD, I was at about 20/100 using my glasses before starting Eylea & it has improved to 20/50 with glasses. Doctor says that is about the best I can hope for. Luckily, using both eyes, I can see at 20/40 which is the worst it can get and yet still get a drivers license.
I think we all hope for improvement but it is often the case that the injection is stopping things from getting worse rather than improving,
Good luck
