Much to my dissapointment I had another eye injection today, largely unexpected, this time the lady consultant instead of the nurse did it. I'm not saying she didn’t know what she was doing but it bloody well hurt and I'm left with a giant black football floating around inside my retina which blots out everything when I look down. When I'm lying on my back the football or perhaps more descriptively planet Zog with its closely orbiting moon disappears so lying down all day seems the best option. Thanks to all you guys who have experienced the same and shared your experiences. Very comforting.

So sorry for you, its such a disappointment when another inj is needed isnt it?
I think the docs just don't do enough inj and are often a bit under pressure knowing the nurses do it so well. No excuse for hurting you though!
The black blobs I had with every eyelea inj regardless of who did it. I was told its the inj fluid. They do bob about but dissolve after a few days. Good luck going forwards.
I’m so sorry you are having such problems with your injections. I am very fortunate and my sight has improved with each Eyelea injection. I had my 3rd on Wednesday, given each time by a nurse. A different nurse this time and the most trouble free yet. I wish there was something that could be done about the distortion but have benn told I have scarring on the retina.
Hi I've lost count of number of injections I've had and now I only have the nurses administer them as I've had 2 bad experiences in the past both due to doctors. You can ask for the nurses when you go in to have the eye test and they will put it at the top of your notes.
HI UnknownArtist. I can sympathise with you as I had a very bad experience three months ago with my fourth Eylea injection. It was a different person who did the injection and just before she did it, she said "sharp scratch", which instantly made me suspicious as I hadn't had that said to me before. I felt everything from start to finish. The pain was awful and I found it very difficult not to move my head. There was no apology afterwards in spite of the obvious pain I had been feeling during the procedure and the state of my eye during the following days was worrying as she had hit a blood vessel. With regard to the black football, I have had large black blobs and black polo mints after three of my injections. After one of the injections, it lasted about three days but eventually disappeared as the injection fluid was absorbed by the eye, much to my relief. The first three injections I received from a different person and had no reason to complain. Here's hoping that your future injections will be pain free. All the best.
Many thanks to you all for your comments and wishes. All traces of 'floaters' 'rings', 'polo mints' etc have now disappeared after only a day and a half since the injection. Another 3 to go!
I imagine you know that the blob is a small bubble of entrained air in the drug. I know that the injector goes to some lengths to avoid the air bubble syndrome but sometime it escapes into the eye. If the bubble is still there after 24 hours it could be more serious so you should go back to the clinic if it hasn't gone. As to your discomfort? I always ask for plenty of analgesia - the request always works for me. Sorry it hurt though!

The black blob is very likely just an air bubble. It appears at the bottom because it is behind the lens. In fact, it is of course, floating at the top of the eye. It normally resolves within 36hrs. My first ones were luminescent at night!
Very enlightening, thanks. The injector spent a long time trying to find a good spot in amongst the blood vessels! Asking me to look up, down, left, right. Probably closed her eyes and took pot luck! Probably not the case but I've just received a text asking me if I would recommend the hospital, 5 very likely, 4 not very likely etc, etc. Not a fan of ridiculous surveys.
A good nurse can give the injection completely pain free but some are better than others and the one time I had it done by a doctor was painful like yours. I now try to be charming and endearing to the nurses in the hope they will give me a better experience. It seems to work. The black floaters will shrink and go in 2 or 3 days.
