Has anyone switched injection medicine? My first post to you all.

I have a bleeding retina and have been getting Eylea injections for one year, 2 rounds of laser surgery and my vision keeps deteriorated. I feel sick for 1 to 2 days after each injection. I have asked to switch to Lucentis which is not as strong. Has anyone had any luck in switching medicine?

Hello Thisisapain,

Sometimes ophthalmologists initiate switching a patient on to a different type of anti-VEGF injection (usually Eylea or Lucentis) if the existing anti-VEGF injection is not holding the eye as they would have hoped and particularly if they have already tried for example, reducing the time down between injections in case this holds the eye better.

Ophthalmologists sometimes try switching the patient as although the different types of anti-VEGF injections all have the same function, they all have slightly different ingredients, so it is hoped that this may then provoke a more positive response.

Kind regards,

Rosalyn, THANK YOU! My doctor doesn’t want to switch, but I insisted I want to try something different, my instincts are to at least try the change.

12 shots and 2 laser surgeries. The laser surgeries are way easier on me compared to the Eylea injections - each time I feel sicker for a day or two after the shots. That’s why I am asking about a different drug.

Hi, I originally had Lucentis injections but now have Eyelea which seem to work better for me as I don’t have to have injections so often.

I have wet AMD in one eye, dry in the other eye.

Still holding up and still driving, thank goodness.

Best wishes.

Yes, I switched from Avastin to Lucentis recently.
