Persevita

Hello everyone from the states. I don’t know how I found out about Persevita, but it is very similar to Areds2 but also has saffron in it. The reviews from customers are very good regarding advancement of AMD (the wet one) as people have said that it has increased the time between injections. I started taking it in place of the AREDS2 in the morning (they have 3 versions of the supplement depending on your preference for how you take the AREDS). It does not make me nauseous like the AREDS does. I order it from Canada. Has anyone else taken it or have heard of it? It is supposed to show improvement after 3 months I think so I’m anxiously awaiting my next retinal scan results.

I looked into this myself too. Saffron is very very expensive to buy on it's own.. I dont know if there are any official scientific evidence statistics to prove it definitely works..or indeed if AREDS2 works?..I have dry AMD both eyes..and continue to take AREDS 2 plus a portion of cooked spinach every day..I will never know if this slows the amd or not..but as everyone diagnosed..I'm desperate for something/anything..to give me some sort of help...im not sure any supplement you take improves your eyesight? If you have AMD. The best you can hope for is eye vitamins maybe will slow progression...

The reviews on their website were good. But I know that there really isn’t a cure and limited help.

I've been using Saffron 2020 with AREDS2 - 1 saffron and 2 Macushield Gold - for a few months now. I started just before the corona pandemic stopped the routine scans, so I don't know whether anything has changed or improved or got worse. I've had two Eyelea injections since then and I believe I am due to be scanned at the end of this month before the next one, and will decide after that how to continue. I certainly haven't noticed any deterioration. Hopefully there's a change for the better. I haven't heard or seen about various kinds of Persavita in the UK other than 2020 - if I go onto the Persavita site and try to access their blogs about saffron and AREDS2 I get kicked back to the UK home page before I can read it. What's that about? I'm asking them...

Hi kate. Are you taking areds saffron and macushield gold? Instead of just the one product?..if so you could be getting overdoses of the different ingredients...I dont think? Theres any eveidence whether our eye supplements work or not?. It's all we have to pin our Hope's on. At best I think we can hope to slow deterioration down..I dont think they can give a result of improvement.

Zinc content in one capsule of 2020 is 10mg, and in Macushield Gold 25mg for 3 capsules. I take one of 2020 and two Macushield (spread over the day), so my zinc intake is about 27mg a day.

Wikipedia on zinc toxicity says:

"Zinc has been used therapeutically at a dose of 150 mg/day for months and in some cases for years, and in one case at a dose of up to 2000 mg/day zinc for months.[7][8][9][10][11] A decrease in copper levels and hematological changes have been reported; however, those changes were completely reversed with the cessation of zinc intake.[9]

However, zinc has been used as zinc gluconate and zinc acetate lozenges for treating the common cold[12] and therefore the safety of usage at about 100 mg/day level is a relevant question. Thus, given that doses of over 150 mg/day for months to years has caused no permanent harm in many cases, a one-week usage of about 100 mg/day of zinc in the form of lozenges would not be expected to cause serious or irreversible adverse health issues in most persons. "

Now, I have taken this combination regularly for about six months, but a dose of 27mg is nothing like the 150mg doses referred to in Wikipedia, so I reckon I am ok. Some people may have specific bad reactions to zinc but I don't appear to be one of them. There is additional copper in both 2020 and MG and I eat lots of spinach, so I hope it all balances out in the end. But I shall see if anything has happened on July 30th!

Let us know if you get positive results at end of the month..I assumed that the lutein and zeaxanthin are the important things in the AREDS2.. the other ingredients are naturally found in the fresh foods we eat.. theres a lot to learn about nutrients in food and what we eat and what to avoid..I try as and when..to swot up but theres masses to learn from it...good luck at end of this month.

Perseverance sells 3 different kinds, I bought the one that you take while also taking AREDS. I think the 2020 is the one you take alone. But yes, I will keep you apprised of any progress.

The spelling is PERSAVITA. I will ask my retinal specialist about it.

Regarding AREDS, there seems to be some concern about the zinc content. I stopped taking AREDS because there could be a problem with an overload of zinc.

The AREDS sometimes make me sick after I take them. Sorry didn’t have the bottle in front of me for the spelling

Hello from California! My opthamologist recommended Areds2 twice a day for me when I began treatment with her 18 months ago for wet MD in one eye. So far the injections are farther and farther apart (now 16 weeks apart) and there's no progression. I have no idea if the Areds2 is doing anything or not, but it's not a difficult decision for me to take it. I respect my opthamologist very much; she is a well-known retinal surgeon and has an excellent reputation.

The Areds2 can be expensive. I get mine at Costco for about $33.00 for 210 pills. Costco delivers free as well, which is attractive because as a vulnerable senior, I don't go into stores, even with a mask. The pills are very expensive at places like CVS or Walmart.

Good luck to you!
