Dry and and AREDS2

I have dry AMD so no injections for me..I have been taking eye supplements for 6 weeks and the last 2 weeks I've been taking AREDS2 I now have some small floaters in my eyes and wondered if the AREDS2 have anything to do with it. As anyone else had this happen?

It is very unlikely that the supplements have caused this vision change, it is necessary for you to contact your opticians and request an appointment as soon as possible for them to look at your eyes and help identify what is going on

hi becky ..my opticians don't provide too much info when I talk about macula degeneration so im seeing my gp to refer me to a retina specialist..somebody who hopefully will spend time with me going through my concerns. my last prescription change in September was a significant change..they said....and the prescription when I got my new glasses was too strong..i complained and they tweaked the prescription and gave me another pair glasses..again..too strong..the optician said I was to persevere with the new glasses???..im using my 2017 prescription glasses which are perfectly fine...this is why..i need to speak with a specialist..the opticians don't seem to be too bothered or are time strapped re appointment times..its scary that I can have an eye test every 12 months for 14 years but nobody wants an in depth discussion about the state of macula changes. thank you for your reply. ps. I have an amster grid and lines are wavy..just like at my eye test. optician was not concerned about WET AMD...so im assuming unless dramatic things happen at this stage..i see the retina specialist instead of rushing to A and E .

Hi Horseaddict,

While it is good that you have asked your GP to see a retinal specialist for your dry AMD, however this referall could take a while to come through and with floaters, you need to have your eyes looked at quickly

There is no link between floaters and macular disease. Macular disease affects the tissues lying under the retina, while floaters occur when there is damage within the eye.

It is important you have your eyes looked at as soon as possible when floaters occur, you can attend any high street opticians, it doesn't have to be one you have seen previously.
