Does anyone else find themselves suffering from tired and dry eyes? If so, any ideas to help? I just want to keep my eyes closed most of the time. HELP! I am on eyelea but have had avastin and lucentis in the past. Many thanks.

Hi maryparry. Yes I get this. Can be quite painful (I rang my clinic about it as wasn't sure what the pain was and they said it was dry eyes).

Also, they said if your eyes water a lot it's because they are dry.

They gave me Hypromellose drops which I now get on prescription. Helps a lot.

Can't use them after an inj tho, have to wait 5d if u can ( told min 24hrs if really absolutely desperate -I try not to, hung on for 3d this time ).

You can get the drops from a pharmacy too.

Ps I find too much reading makes it worse :(

Thanks so much for replying. I am scared about using eyedrops too soon as well for fear of infection. Damned if you do and damned if you don't! Ha Ha.x

Hi

I use Viscotears Eye Gel, on prescription from G.P the tube can be used for a month but then has to be discarded, but not for use prior to injection, however single dose sterile units are safe to use post injection and are soothing. Both can be obtained directly from the Chemists without prescription.

All the best. L.

Injections give you dry eyes. I use theoloz duo on prescription 6 times a day. Safe to use on injection day. Wear sunglasses as often as you can as wind and Sun also dry out your eyes.

Hello Mary,

You don't say if this is worse just after the injections. If this is the case, there may be various things that are specifically to blame that can be avoided during treatment.

If it is a recurring or persistent condition, then other causes may be to blame.

Whichever is the case, you should talk to your ophthalmologist about it as soon as possible.

Also, Monday to Friday, you can call the Macular Society helpline on 0300 3030111 when you can talk to knowledgeable, friendly people about your problem.

I have experienced real discomfort in the past post injection. I have sorted out what works best for me but it took a while. A minority suffer quite severe temporary after effects and they are not funny!

Good luck!

Gill

Thank you, yes I will mention it, it seems to last all the time now. I am having monthly injections with eyelea, maybe worse since I started that.

Hi,yes I get that feeling but only for a few hours. I find that the steroid ointment they give me reàĺĺy helps to lubricate the eye. Do you use it? If you still get the dryness after a day or so you should probably visit your GP for some dry eye drops ☺

Hi maryparry,

If you have dry eye syndrome then you should consult an expert ophthalmologist for a detailed check-up. Dry eyes are of different types, you should apply eye drops only after diagnosing the type. I had both cataract and eye dryness, hence my doctor in Goldberg centre vision correction in Toronto ( goldbergcentre.com/ ) advised me to correct my eye dryness before the cataract treatments. Eye exercises and eye drops will help you to get rid of this disease. You can also try advanced eye treatments like lipiflow treatments if needed.

Have started suffering from dry eyes after starting eylea, started using hypromellose drops but the ones without preservatives as the others made my eyes itch, found I was using them 5/6 times a day,now just occasionally so using the individual capsules it works out cheaper.good luck.
