I had an episode whilst getting off a plane in 2018 ,long story short!! end up staying overnight in hospital and most of the next day usual tests carried out nothing found, then sent home .seen my GP angiography booked ,blood sample taken and iron levels dangerously low which gives you the same symptoms as a heart attack ,so was put on iron tablets ,when I finaly had the angiography they said my heart was strong but I had slight furring of the artery commensurate to my age 74 stage one they called it nothing critical but my doctor did belt and braces put me on statins betta blocker and soluble aspirin and a spray, on the strength of all this my travel insurance has gone through the roof £900 for wife and my self for two weeks in the Caribbean .cholesteral 5.2 blood preasure fine ,do I have to suffer this for low iron level which is under control any advice greatfully received ...

Shop around but Caribbean is very expensive - like the States - and gets worse if you are over 70. Good luck in your search.

I know: it's very trying getting travel insurance when you are, as I am, on what I call "Just in case" (?prophylactic ) medication. My Cholesterol was a "bit high" so GP puts me on statins, "just in case"; my Blood pressure was a "bit high", so the Consultant put me on 3 different medications (tiny doses). (I am grateful, really am for the care and attention of the NHS). So I have perfect Blood Pressure and cholesterol. (Also bludgeoned into taking aspirin)...… I really empathise and sympathise with you Sprinter2395.

Getting travel insurance is a nightmare! I try to impress upon the call centre operative that these drugs are prophylactic, that BP and blood lipids are in fact absolutely FINE. It cuts no ice! Back come the form when I've finally arranged and paid thro' the nose for my insurance......Statins for HIGH cholesterol, 3 different kinds of medication for high blood pressure…… No quarter is given that you might never have had these conditions in the first place......the doses are tiny, and in fact you're probably in better, (well same as) , condition than someone 1/2 your age.

I'm 76 and a 1/2 by the way.

I do hope you enjoy your Carrabbean Holiday. Yes do shop around. I hope you have good luck in obtaining a cheaper Quote!

All the bestxx

Shop around for your insurance! They are not all so picky about the risk. Try filling an application come questionnaire via money super market or similar.

Jjnan, this is amazing value - just to be clear, are your various conditions specified as being covered?

Yes we included everything....they weren't bothered about macular ...just asked if my BP is under control...and if he has no further app's for aneurism ...

Shop around. I use Benenden.

The company jjnan uses sounds incredible though! I'll get a quote from them next time myself - will double check the cover carefully though as I usually pay an extra premium to have our conditions covered.
