steroid eye implant

Hi all. I had an Ozurdex steroid implant in my eye on Monday 21st May. It wasn't much different from the Eyelea injections of which I've had nine. Disappointingly, my vison is much worse post implant and although I know it will take time for the eye to heal, I am worried about the blurring and dark, threadlike filaments and floaters in my vision. With the Eyelea injection, the blurring was never as bad as this. Does anyone have a similar experience with Ozurdex? Does the active ingredient, Dexamethasone, leave an observable residue of dark filaments and particles?

Is there a reason you switched from eyelea to these implants

The effect of Eyelea is transient. In my case, the oedema reduces a bit but inevitably comes back after about two months or so.The steroid dexamethasone is released gradually over six months as the implant biodegrades within in the eye. This should mean less injections.

Hi eyeprotect, I replied to your comment re this on my post, not sure if you saw it so am replying here too x Ring your clinic for advice - my blurriness doesn't last as long. I got floaters with Lucentis and eyelea but my first implant they all went away. This 3 rd implant has given me the effect of thick eyelashes at top of eye but I think they may be disappearing slowly. Good luck.

Hello eyeprotect. I had my second ozurdex implant on 15 th May and I also see a wormlike floater. But the vision improved from day one. I had four eyelia before my doctor switched to implant. For me ozurdex has worked great.

Glad that your ozurdex implant went well and was effective. The jury is still out with my implant. I have a lot of floaters and mistiness which may or may not be due to the bruising and bleeding. If not, I would have to wear shades or light-sensitive spectacles to make me less aware of the the floaters. Thank God I only have the macular edema in one eye. I have a review appointment with my eye surgeon in two weeks and will post the prognosis. Cheers!

Let me know please if it gets any better I sure hope it does I did have iluvien implants put in 9/2/16 and they never helped me at all they did not make my eyes worse thank God but unfortunately I still have them in my eyes until they completely dissolve which should b by 9/2/19 at the latest and because I have them I can’t get kenalog shots which of course work fantastic on me because it’s too much steroid for my eyes with implants and my pressures went to 34 now I take 3 different kinds of drops a day for pressure and doing better

My eye is still very bloodshot following the injection so I'm hoping the floaters and mistiness will eventually disappear but my vision in my left eye (where the oedema is ) is not better but worse at this point. I have never heard of kenalog shots? It all seems to be a very crude science at this point. I definitely think it is better to leave well - or middling - alone unless one is actually in danger of losing one's sight. I have a review appointment with the eye surgeon in two weeks and I will get back to you as to the prognosis. Cheers!

Good luck to you

I had one Ozurdex implant 3 months ago after 79 Avasin and Lucentis shots. As expected my IOP increased by the 6 week mark but has now dropped to 21 however, because the swelling, my condition is radiation damage not AMD, I am back to Lucentis. All a little confusing I have to say as the change seems unneccessary given the good pressure result.

The Ozurdex implant was utterly painless and I had no floaters or blurring apart from a couple of days last week but that cleared completely.
