Bad days getting worse
Hi Mmsunny,
To help with glare from the sun, you should try out some amber or yellow tinted 'anti-glare' spectacles. You can buy either simple no-prescription ones, clip-ons' or 'fit-overs'. They will help with glare issues which are an unfortunate side effect of macular conditions.
Please see our booklet called 'protecting your eyes' at the following link;

More concerning is the fact you have been told that you have a leak. This is likely to be wet macular degeneration and can usually be treated.
Are you being referred for treatment?
Please see our 'care guide' for wet AMD at the following link;
macularsociety.org/sites/de...
And our treatments booklet;

These would apply to
vitelliform macular dystrophy as well as AMD.
Best wishes

I find the glare from the sun uncomfortable and always wear prescription sun glasses when out. It sounds as though you may have wet macular degeneration in which case have you been referred for injections to dry up (hopefully) the leaks? Perhaps you need to follow up on your last consultation . Contact the Macular society who are very helpful.
Best wishes.
Hi Mmsunny
Although there is a difference between vitelliform macular dystrophy and AMD the symptoms are very much the same. The former is rarer and often, but not always, run in families. As with AMD new blood vessels can grow and leak onto the macula, causing damage to the cells.
To protect my eyes from the glare I wear over-sun glasses, which I bought for £10 from our local Low-Vision Charity concern. I wear them over my normal varifocals and they cover the top, sides and bottom so that no sun light can enter my eyes. I find them very useful as they seem to have a cooling effect on the eyes and for me they are better than ordinary sun glasses. I have tried light-reactive lenses but find them useless.
How much protection we need to feel comfortable depends very much on the individual person and on their particular eye condition and the severity of it.
Hope that helps. All the best.
