dry eye getting worse?

hello - not sure if this is quite the right forum but thought I would try….

I am 60 yrs old and have dry eye syndrome . I’ve had for a good number of years now.

Recently my eyes have become the bain of my life despite all the usual strategies (heat mask , regular preservative-free drops, tea-tree eyelid wipes, glasses in in the car to prevent the aircon blowing in to my eyes etc….).

I waken with heavy eyes and puffiness underneath and it never really shifts. I tried hayfever drops but tbh I’d say that most of the time they no difference.

it feels like this is more than dry eye. Optician not helpful.

Somy question is this - has anyone ever had a sensitivity to their glasses? Because if I’m honest that’s what if feel like.

Or, an other ideas? I’m wondering if I need allergy testing. Might it be dust or something else?????

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Kind Regards. 😊

Hi Scandi123, I'm sorry to hear about your dry eye problem, I have it to a certain extent but not as bad as yours, thank goodness. I tried almost all of the drops and ointments I could find but none seemed to work for me until I started using Hylo Forte (preservative free) regularly (as many times a day as I need to) and it has helped me so much.

I'm wondering who your opticians are? Also, I see you are on AA for osteoporosis and if this may be the reason, as some drugs can cause dry eye - have you seen your GP or consultant rheumatologist and queried your problem with them? Try that for now if you can and see what they have to say. I say this as I see one of your health interests is gastritis and I have just seen a couple of posts online which say that dry eye and gut issues were related - depending, of course, on if you do have gut issues - just a thought. I hope you can get it sorted as it really is such an uncomfortable condition. Let us know how it goes.

Thank you! Don’t think I have tried hylo 40 so will give them a go, although it still feels as though it might be something external that is the irritant - I just can’t figure out what!

No longer on AA or any other PPI - took for 4weeks and decided not for me. Gastritis not currently a problem - fingers crossed it stays like that.

Thanks again for getting back to me - much appreciated. 😊

You're very welcome.

It's Hylo Forte in a red and white box - I get them on eBay or Amazon if the price is right. If you get any, you have to pump the container a few times to start the drops coming out. I only used to use them as they say, four times a day, but found out afterwards that you can use them when you need them no matter how many times. I really hope you find what the cause is.
