Hi Nancy. So sorry you have eye infection. Hopefully they gave you antibiotics for it and it will b better v soon x I've not had it myself but it goes to show how easy it is to get it. Had you done anything differently from before?

in reply to

Infections quite often come from the eyelashes. My clinic cleans the eyelids v carefully prior to injection.

Apparently, e coli can also be a culprit requiring vitrectomy.

Hello Nancy. I hope your infection has settled down by now. We can do without the extra complications on top of the unpleasantness of injections. It may may be helpful if you were to wear wrap-around sunglasses after each injection. I got mine for £10 . They go over your normal glasses, if you wear any, and protect top, sides and bottom from dust and other foreign bodies entering your eyes as well as protection from UVA. They are rather big on my small face and I look like 'Brains' from the kids comic. But hey, they can save a lot of trouble.

Good luck! x

Hi Nancy,

So sorry to hear about your infection. My doctor in the states will have the prep nurse put an antibiotic in the eye and then cover it with a sterile patch. I requested the patch, and keep it on for two hours after I leave the office. The belief is that it helps maintain the sterile environment until I can get home and settled. Hope the infection resolves quickly.

Best Regards,

Tim Shannon

what do you mean by still breaking up Nancy? I think it's very good that you spotted it quickly and that they have started antibiotics quickly- do you have to have more treatment?

in reply to nancyc47201

OMG Nancy. I didn't realise it was quite so involved to sort your eye out. Poor you. Sending hugs xxx

My retina specialist told me at the beginning before i got my first shot there is a1 in 1,000 chance of an infection and if i felt any pain to call him immediately to get an injection of the whatever the antibiotic is.

I have only had two eylea injections hurt so bad wouldn't take another for month's.

Was told today it only slows down progression of macular degeneration will have to take for the rest of my life. Then told all of the serious side affects again wondering if it is worth it.
