Hello Orthopedic,
I am afraid when someone develops CNV or 'wet' macular degeneraton, the lucentis injections will only stabilise sight. Sometimes an improvement in vision is noticed in about one third of people.
I assume that you will continue to have further monthly injections?
Please see our information booklet on treatments at the following link;

Hello Orthopedic,
As Andy1955 says the injections help to treat the condition not cure it, but don't give up hope.
I was 45 yrs old when I got wet MD (CNV) in my right eye in Dec 2011. When I went for my first injection I couldn't read the eye chart at all and even when they brought the letters to within 6 ft I could only see with my peripheral vision. It was very upsetting.
I had the 'loading' dose of 3 injections 6 weeks apart. Each time my vision improved (although I didn't really notice at first) and each time I went back I could read more and more of the chart. My consultant thinks that because of my age (nutrients and oxygen getting to my eyes etc) the injections were more effective. After the 3 injections the bleed stopped and it's been stable ever since (my last injection was April 2012) and I recovered my sight although I still have a distortion where the scar tissue is on my macular. I notice it most when i'm making a drink and the rim of the cup looks buckled.
So don't worry that you haven't noticed a change after 6 days, if it happens it will happen gradually.
I don't want to give you any false hope... all you can do is prepare for the worst (as Andy is right only a third of people notice an improvement) and hope for the best.
Best wishes
Hi orthopaedic,
I'm 35 and was diagnosed with cnv 9 years ago. I have had avastin injections, I'm not sure how this differs from lucentis (other that cost!). I found my eyesight deteriorated before gradually improving. Improvement can be difficult to notice yourself and it is early days. If you are concerned get back in touch with your consultant or eye clinic.
Kind regards
I am on my second "round" of 3 monthly Lucentis injections following bleeds/swelling due to high myopia (-22). I did notice some improvement after my first 3 jabs, now over 3 years ago, but it did take a while & I wasn't really aware of the change on a daily basis, just a gradual improvement on reading the hospital charts at subsequent visits.
I'm not sure yet if this second round of treatment has improved my vision, but it does appear to have stopped a slight leak from getting worse thankfully.
I would agree with the others that it is probably too early to be expecting a noticeable difference in vision, which is jolly frustrating I know! Best wishes.
