I was diagnosed while my ANA was negative but it has previously shown positive and it has been positive ever since. Having a rash is not necessary for the diagnosis if you have many other symptoms, which you seem to have. But the doctors will look at everything in the whole and a positive ANA is a useful indicator for them, although some healthy people could also have positive ANA.
