Holidaying on the coast

We have a caravan sited on the east coast of yorkshire. Lots of sun (sometimes) sea and wind etc. As have only just been diagoised, wondering if this is a good idea? Would hate to give it all up as love walking dogs (2 mini dacshunds) etc.

I also have a caravan on east coast, and find l manage quite well, l cover myself twice a day with high factor sun cream keep most of my body covered with clothing, and on hot days always wear a hat, avoid the sun between 11-4. but the one thing that really keeps me safe is l have a large windproof umbrella that has been lined with 100% sun uv proofing, and it keeps me covered and completely safe at all times, l also have a smaller umberella that clips on my sun chair that keeps me safe in the sun. You can purchase these on line at Umbrella Heaven.com. I do hope this helps. Good luck lets hope we get a good summer x

It sounds wonderful! I think that doing relaxing things you enjoy, can really help with lupus. As the others say, pace yourself, protect yourself from the cold, & the sun, & it should do you the world of good. Enjoy. X

Hi Flossy, Like you, I love being outdoors. I never keep still in direct sun, particularly as I'm over-sensitive to chemicals and cannot use sun-blockers. I also get over-heated easily, which can trigger a flare. Luckily clothing helps most of the time and I never go anywhere without a hat in my handbag (also use it in the car). If it is windy I get increased tinnitus for ages afterwards, so that hat is a must. I have been recommended to take a 20 min walk daily, which I do when up to it. It is also recommended to get about 20 minutes of daylight every day, at least on face and hands/arms, as the body needs this for producing Vit D, which is so important to maintain health. I read somewhere that daylight is also very important to our eyes, so take my glasses off (when I remember!) for at least 10 minutes when outdoors (not close to a cliff mind! ;) ). Walking seems ideal for you - and the dogs. I think we can do anything we feel up to, as long as we listen to the body and rest when needed. Checking out umbrellaheaven.com sounds a good idea (thanks Lucy-May).

Good luck Flossy - enjoy your caravan. xxx :)
