There may b a link between Raynauds & Calcium as Nifedipine is a calcium blocker that they frequently use 2 try & treat Raynauds.

Yes, I strive to eat a healthy balanced diet and avoid foods high in "amines" which I have come to understand aren't good for us lupies. You can see a comprehensive list here: kitchentablemedicine.com/fo... However, I'm a great believer in a little of what you fancy does you good :)))

Hi Niokke, me again. I follow the California or low GI diet as advised by St Thomas's lupus unit, yes them again too! Plus making fresh juices & smoothies. Both help to stop my blood sugars crashing, & also with my ibs symptoms. But overall, fatigue is still my main problem.

I have seen a lupus recovery diet book on amazon, & been tempted to buy it. But trailing meds at the moment, so don't want to confused by what is working & what's not.

The singing patient, Carla Ullbrich (not sure of spelling) is a big fan of diet to treat lupus. so it might be worth checking out her website.

I am majorly looking into diet and nutrition to help me, and am currently following the blood group diet while incorporating an anti inflammatory diet with certain foods, it is early days but I will let you know how it goes and if it helps.

X

Ps Thanks Roobarb I will be checking out your suggestions. Good luck trailing your meds.x.

Thanks Mixed, keep your fingers crossed for me. I always seem to get bad reactions to tablets so trying liquid azathioprine next. Hopefully more gentle on the GI tract. What is blood group diet? Sounds interesting!

Hi Niokke,

Lupies often suffer with allergies and sensitivities and I believe chemical free foods have a big part to play - in any healing process. I particularly avoid synthetic sugars - convinced that they are part of the cause of obesity, as affecting the brain, actually making people hungry(!!).

Almost everything I eat and drink now is organic (including sugar, salt, herbs, tea, coffee, chocolate, honey, etc). I have (over time) replaced practically everything in my kitchen cupboards with 'the real thing' (organic of course!) and as organic foods are more nutritious, my portions have become a bit :) smaller and everything tastes so much 'more.'

FRESH onion, garlic and lemon are natural antibiotics, so have some of that daily. Olive oil is anti-inflammatory, so use that too in cooking and on my daily salad. Lots of other foods (if organic) have various healing properties. I use the real thing, such as proper butter, full milk etc. I eat everything I fancy ..in moderation.

PS - It was feeling better from the homoeopathy treatments that made me want to change to organic produce and this kitchen-cupboard-replacement-period of mine has taken about a year :)

Hi Roobarb, The blood group diet is a book by Dr D'adamo called Eat Right For Your Type so if you know your blood group it works on which diseases affect particular groups and how foods affect the different blood groups. So far it is helping me I think, I don't react well to medication either and would really like to find a way to control this disease in a more natural way... Saying that I am still on a whole host of meds but fingers crossed one day I can come off them. You can look at a free sample the book on Amazon. X
